Explorer Jacket Navy / S Reviews

5 Rating 1 Reviews
What activity did you use the product for? Scottish Winter climbing/ hiking
What weather and temperatures did you experience? Minus 4 C/ typical Scottish winter day with several seasons over a 5 hour period!
What do you like about the product? Retro styling but with a modern (Dundee/ Scotland made) fabric that works well
Are there any developments we could make? Fleece in hand pockets, but might add too much bulk?
In the event that we would like to discuss these answers with you further, are you happy for a member of the Shackleton team to get in touch? yes
How did you come across Shackleton? Long time purchaser and all around Shackleton "fan" since writing my thesis on him 40+ years back!! fan
Tempted by the Centenary as soon as it was launched based on it's retro Polar explorer looks. Firstly, advice on sizing, for other Shackleton jackets (parkas/ down) I've gone with an XS being 35" chest/ 5' 11" tall, slim cyclist build...as this wasn't available in XS went for Small and have to say it fits perfectly, so guess that means it comes up a little small - works well over a base layer and either mid layer fleece or wool sweater. Side zip access works well once the zipper has "freed" up a little and, using it in the wilds of a Scottish Winter over the layers mentioned it kept out wind/ snow/ hail/ sleet and rain over a 5 hour+ period on Ben Wyvis and withstood blasting sleet on the shores of the Moray Firth. Fabric has softened up really quickly, large chest pocket takes a shed load of stuff and hand warmer pockets sit just at the right level...definitely recommended...tempted by the ecru one now, having gone for the dark navy blue one!
