Watch Cap Navy / O/S Reviews

4.6 Rating 20 Reviews
What activity did you use the product for? Country walks and urban dog exercising
What weather and temperatures did you experience? Rain, Rain and more Rain
Are there any developments we could make? As above. I feel it needs some other material alongside the Merino to keep it in tight and better retain it's shape.

Love the styling and feel of it...but then i got stuck in a rainstorm on a long walk. The hat got properly wet. And ever since it has lost it's shape, becoming much droopier and it has lost that clenched beanie-style fit. I tried hand washing it, with fabric conditioner, and then letting it very slowly dry on an inflated balloon. (Chat GPT was full of good ideas about how to restore the shape of a merino wool hat) But that had little effect. Do i spray it with starch? For a week or two it was lovely, but now it's a bit saggy.

Thank you for your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear you’ve experienced an issue with your Watch Cap. We would advise against using fabric conditioner on this item, as it can affect the shape and performance of the merino fibres. We also recommend drying the hat flat, in line with the care label instructions, to help it maintain its original shape. We’ve sent you a separate email with more detailed care guidance to help resolve this. If you have any further questions in the meantime, please do email us at info@shackleton.com and we'd be happy to assist.

What activity did you use the product for? Everyday use. Tried on Norwegian winter trip in the mountains
What weather and temperatures did you experience? -10 to 0 degrees Celsius. Norwegian mountain climate.
Are there any developments we could make? More densely knit. Change the production to UK. After reading classical polar literature, it’s striking how carefully selected process the old polar heroes went through in selecting manufactoring prosessen in everything they was choosing as equipment. Nothing was left to chance and I think ypu as brand should do the same. Quality, heritage manufacturing and longevity above all. People are willing to pay for that.

How did you come across Shackleton? A fan of classical polar heroes. By mistake on a London trip
Wanted a good quality, densely knittet Cap for winter use and hoped For a new favorite winter cap for mountain life. It’s unfortunately not that good. The watch cap looked nice online. It’s a nice cap for everyday use and casual wear, but not suitable for outdoor winter use on trips and expeditions. For that it’s to loosely knitted and does not protect against wind. I regret to see that it’s made in china. This was not stated on the website. It’s a nice cap, but not expeditiongrade equipment as I hoped for from Shackleton.

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you're not entirely satisfied with this product. The Watch Cap is a lifestyle beanie with a loose knit style with a more relaxed fit unlike the Portland beanie which would be a better option for someone wanting an expedition grade beanie.
