Where your nightmares end… WILLARD begins.
"A twisted tale you won’t soon forget." — Tales Of Terror
Willard Stiles (Bruce Davison, Insidious: Chapter 4) is a young man with a big problem. He lives alone in a crumbling house with his ailing mother (Elsa Lanchester, Arnold, Bride of Frankenstein). His boss, Al Martin (Ernest Borgnine, Escape from New York) is a vulgar, cruel man who stole his business from Willard's father and is now working Willard to death at his factory job.
Lonely, depressed and isolated, Willard is on the verge of a breakdown when he makes a new friend: Ben, one of the many rats who inhabit his dilapidated home. Not only can Willard communicate with the rodent, but he can actually command him to do his bidding. Using Ben and his furry friends as instruments of retaliation, Willard commands his pets to carry out his vengeance…

A classic 1970s horror film, creepy and fun to watch. Nice transfer to Blu-ray.

A lonely young man, bully by all, forgotten by many, left to suffer in his own lonely world, but when a group of rats gather they seek the destruction of the masses. This film far superior to the remake and treasure for all to enjoy, especially those creep out by these terrorizing little feverish hungry beasts.

I first heard of Willard when the Cripsin Glover remake was released. I've been anxious to see the original since, but never laid my hands on a copy. Thanks, Shout Factory!

Great movie; saw it when it first came out. Glad to find out that I was finally able to obtain the DVD through Shout Factory. I was not disappointed; the Hi Def reproduction was superb, also extra interviews with Bruce Davison et al years after it first came out are on this DVD.

This one of horror's most unique classics thanks to powerful acting, a focused plot, and an odd story. In other films, a character like Willard would be dumped in a few ancillary scenes in order to give the protagonist some kind of agency to make the plot have relevance. Not here. In this film, we stay with Willard in nearly every single scene, deepening our understanding of a man with a score of toxic relationships and mental illness. The personality flaws for most characters here are realistic and often painfully so. Even when Willard commits crimes against those who seek to undermine him, the film stays sympathetic. It doesn't excuse Willard for acting out--it gives him justification. If the movie needed to capitalize on something, however, it would be the relationship Willard has to Ben. Ben should have been more of an antagonist than what he was allowed to do. The music can be a touch inappropriate as well. 'Willard' may be a bit too slow and polite for some people, but it's not about the scares here. It's about the characters, and they'll stay with you for a while.
