“Note: Decking Driver. 240V / 12V. Max 30W.
I have a "Tom Shine' (Chinese made) 24mm recessed LED decking lighting installation, which typically came as 16 lights sets with a 240V / 12V Max 15W driver.
I have had to change the drivers regularly over the years since our decking lights were installed.
(I think this is because this installation may be pushing the drivers to their limit - (23 to) 25 lights × 0.6W per driver = 15W per circuit)
As there are over 70 lights on our decking I haven't wanted to change the entire installation, so thought I'd try upgrading the drivers (x3) to larger ones.
(Note: I'm not an electrician)
On the assumption that if 15W will operate 25 LEDs max. then 30W should potentially operate 50. and hopefully on our installation will last somewhat longer, as they will only be at 50% capacity.
I found these 30W drivers on Simple Lighting and it seemed they would be ideal and it would be a straight forward installation.
Upon installing then initially, the drivers didn't seem to work, however after a lot of testing I realised that the male 12V connector, although these appeared to be an identical fit for the Tom Shine female connectors I have, these has a larger thread preventing them from connecting as designed . In addition, the same connector has an internal structure that only allows the 2 connectors to be pushed together in one way - In order to get them to work, I have had to reverse the connection, as the 2 internal pins are reversed on these drivers..
A solution I thought I would share with any potential purchasers ... Just in case they have a similar installation / come across the same issue.
Otherwise they work brilliantly (so far)”
