“I previously purchased Position Pieces for Cello Book 1 and found it very easy to follow and a great support for finger position development. I now feel ready to tackle Position Pieces for Cello Book 2. It is what the title says it is - a gradation of scores that encourage the development of finger placement in the various positions, from fifth position to seventh position. The scores rely, at least in the melody score, on reading tenor clef. This is something I have only just encountered in my cello playing journey, so I am pleased to develop my ability to read this clef. Most of the accompanying scores are base clef. I have also purchased this book for my daughter, also a beginner/intermediate cello player, and I hope we will be able to play together very soon. One aspect of the method used in this book is the use of ‘targets’, that is, finger positions that allow the player to check intonation against open strings and harmonics. I particularly like this ‘target’ method because it really does test the accuracy of your finger positions. The scores themselves do not appear to be terribly difficult although I am not yet familiar with them all.”
