Warchal Karneol Violin String Set 4/4 Reviews

4.5 Rating 2 Reviews
I bought these strings to try out after using Pirastro Tonica for years. I like the Tonica strings but just felt like a change. These strings are a touch mellower than Tonicas and also have a slightly lower tension except for the E string. I found the E string a little thin and hard under my fingers - it also has a tendency to whistle. After a few days to let it settle I changed back to a Tonica E with the rest of the Karneol set. The Tonica E is among the best in my opinion. These strings take a while to settle in - after about 5 days I'm not sure they are quite settled in yet. The sound and responsiveness of this string is excellent and I highly recommend them - no string is perfect but these come pretty close.

These strings are a great improvement on the previous batch of synthetic core silver wounds. Their warm, almost silky tone is exactly what my Fender FV-3 semi-acoustic electric violin needs. Generally, electrics suffer from a terribly buzzy, unnaturally tinny sound resulting from the lack of acoustic amplification throughout the wood. The FV-3 is a little different, with a hollow wooden body that uses only an unpowered Piezo pickup to amplify, but the sound is more than obviously not that of an acoustic violin. I'm happy to say that although the gap is unlikely to be completely bridged, this set of strings has helped close it. Great option for this budget, and recommended to me by my personal accessory supplier.
