Eterra EX-30 Excavator Flail Mower
Description
Introducing the new and improved V2 model of the EX-30 Excavator Flail Mower – a top-of-the-line Flail Mower that is built for clearing grass and tough brush up to 6” along roadsides, ditches, and other hard-to-reach areas. The EX-30 Flail Mower is equipped with 20, 2lb Y Knife flail blades that are powered by a Permco Hydraulic Gear Motor. The blade life expectancy is up to 500 hours with normal use (No rock impacts). Additional blades and parts are always available as backups with your initial order or to purchase later as needed.
Now let's talk about the improvements to this unique and high-quality attachment: Eterra has consistently evolved and prioritized customer feedback, striving not only to maintain but to elevate its renowned quality. The drive shaft material has been updated for improved durability and reduced wear from impact. The housing design has been modified to improve rigidity and strength, this reduces flex in the housing which directly improves cutting performance. These enhancements ensure that this mower sets a new standard in the market for reliability and longevity.
The V2 model also boasts our new standard rail mounting system that is compatible with all new Eterra excavator products. For existing products and mounts, adaptors will be available for purchase. The new mount system features a stronger design and easier installation.
This mower is designed for excavators that weigh 7,000-14,000 lbs. with a flow range of 8-26 GPM. If this model doesn't fit the requirements of your machine, visit the EX-30M model that is rated for 2,200-7,000 lb. machines or the EX-40 model that is rated for 9,000-20,000 lb. machines.
Optional add-ons like the thumb saddle and chain guard are available to purchase for increased versatility and protection.
Note: Every excavator is different. Older models often utilize two pumps: one for stick and rotation control, and another for track drive and auxiliary flow (your mower). For machines that have this type of pump arrangement, it is not possible to drive the machine forward and cut at the same time. However, newer machines like Kubota and select Yanmar models boast three pumps, enabling simultaneous cutting and movement. For clarification on your machine's setup and capabilities, don't hesitate to contact our sales team for personalized assistance.

My EX 30 is more than I could have expected. The engineering, materials, and construction are first class, from the grade 8 bolts with metal lock nuts to the hydraulic hoses to even the paint. It is clearly a commercial machine, and should last virtually forever if not abused. As expected, it is about the maximum weight my Kubota KX 057-4 handles comfortably. It handles grass about as fast as you can safely swing it, but in thickets of 1” Chinese privet you have to work from the top down, slowly. I am very happy with the machine. I am interested in seeing how long the blades stay sharp and if I can sharpen them without too much unbalance. I have two suggestions: one, correct the literature for the motor case drain: 5 psi relief valve rather than line direct to tank. And piping the relieve valve so one can see any discharge is also very first class engineering. Two, reveal and explain the check valve across the motor ports. I asked about the need for one in an e-mail and did not get a clear answer, so I planned to install one across the auxiliary hydraulic ports on the Kubota boom. But when I first ran the machine I was surprised at how smoothly the motor spooled down when the hydraulics closed, so I decided to look and see. Ignoring the obvious way of shining a light in the round hole in the right side of the motor cabinet, I removed the rear shield. I stuck an air ratchet on a nut and the box end wrench I had on the bolt head nearly broke my hand when I fired the ratchet. Grade 8 bolts, metal lock nuts, and Red Locktite? And what did you tighten them with? Thought I would never get those dozen or so bolts off. But sure enough, there smiling at me was a very sanitary hydraulic installation with a check valve across the motor ports. That is also first class engineering and you need to tout it. Now I have a spare check valve, a few ½” pipe swivel fittings, and a couple of short hoses if I ever need them. But at least I did not cobble all that stuff together on the front of the boom before I thought to check to see if you had already installed one.

Finally bent a blade today after 5 years of serious brush cutting. I usually cut 6ft California grass with my Bobcat 331, but also large areas of Strawberry Guava. If you've ever dealt with Guava you'll know it is one of the most difficult types of wood to deal with. It will destroy even the most expensive blades on any chainsaw you throw at it. The area that I have been clearing had a lot of garbage and I would occasionally wrap up all kinds of metal wires, hit bricks, and all kinds of other debris. The area is also extremely steep and there have been times where I have been stuck bad enough that I had to push off on my EX-30 to get out. The EX-30 has been a game changer for me. I also need to add a shout out to the people at Skid Steer Solutions. They have always been polite, prompt, and knowledgeable.

The machine was shipped as promised and on time. I had an opportunity to see the machine in person at the local logging show held in eugene and was also able to meet the Company reps. The machine was packed very well as necessary to avoid any cosmetic damage. The machine came from the factory with the connections reversed so the internal check valve blocked hydraulic flow and the machine would not work. I contacted Skid steer and spoke with someone in the Engineering department who was able to identify the problem quickly over the phone. I switched the hose end couplers and the machine works perfectly. I am amazed at how well balanced the rotating assembly is! It is the smoothest flail i have ever run. The machine cuts well and performs as expected.

First of all I received the mower in perfect condition and it fit the machine correctly. I am very happy with the way the mower is performing so far and the quality of the build seems good. I am able to mow areas that haven’t been cleaned up for years with ease. I would caution that putting this EX30 mower on a lesser size machine than this is probably not a good idea for 2 reasons, weight of the mower to my 304E2 with a standard size stick is just about at the limit for balance and I would not want any less flow either as that is about maxed out also, using 2 controls like swinging and reaching out the boom is slow to move while mowing at the same time.
