Poor customer service. SmarTours received the $300 deposit check and cashed it on November 30, 2018, but claimed that the check was not received on December 6, 2018, and refused to do research. Misleading tour dates. SmarTours advertised tour dates as July 7 to July 19, 2019, but actual travel dates are July 8 to July 18, 2019. Two very tiring early morning departures to the airports in Bali and Java. The visit to the World Heritage Site Borobudur Temple in Java is too short. Tour Director Jack is excellent, hotels are great, meals are satisfying.

Bali was fascinating but could have done without Java. While the two temples in Java were well worth seeing, there wasn’t much else to see or we were taken to see. While the batik factory was interesting, I could have done without it. My greatest concern was too much local flying (2 days worth) just to get to Jakarta to fly home for many more hours of flying. Hanging out at airports is not relaxing. We never got to experience Jakarta and were left on hold at an airport hotel. Reasoning was Jakarta too far away and too much traffic. Therefore suggest that only Bali be highlighted and drop Java. If Java included, extend tour by at least one day and include City tour of Jakarta. Would also suggest flying out of JFK. Getting to Newark is a pain. Cathay Pacific no great shakes. Also, no Optional tour offered in Yogyakarta. I do not recommend trip for people with knee/hip problems. Very many steps (some uneven) to climb in temples. No handrails. Many sidewalks, if they exist, are uneven, have cracks and holes. Point of fact, one person fell on her face and needed stitches at local clinic. While Arma hotel was beautiful it has too many stairs. Couldn’t even take up or down suitcases very easily. All food was wonderful wherever we went. Great variety and wonderful restaurants. Jack was a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable, considerate and attentive to each persons needs. Finally, I am left wondering what my advantage was as a SmarTraveler. This was number 10 with 11 coming in April.
