Tour was excellent. Tour Guide , Gudney, was outstanding. She was organized, responsible, very alert and knowledgeable about everywhere we went. Structured activities and meals were very good. Hotels were well located. The hotel in Reykjavik had rather small rooms but good food. The bus was comfortable. The Harpa tour was excellent. Icelandic Airlines was awful. they did not give us seats together. We tried calling them to get seat assignment and they refused to talk over the phone. Thiri phone service was delayed and unhelpful They told us that Smart Tours should have booked us seats together. The planes were older and had no plugs for laptops. The boarding process in Iceland was confused and disorganized. we had to wait, standing up, at the boarding gate before they let us on the plane. At least let them have some seats there. This is our 4th trio with smart tours and we will travel with you again.

Overall, the tour of Iceland was very good. A couple of the day itineraries though had issues such as poor timing, too much wait time, and uninteresting destinations (due to the subsequent limited time for that day). Specifically, the day trip to the western island Heimaey was not good. We left at a reasonable time in the morning and had a couple of stops along the way. They were not all that interesting, but okay. Then we were running a little earlier for the ferry so made another stop basically to the same waterfall area that we had seen before. Once we left there, we went to the ferry and waited well over an hour -- no food available. By the time we got to the island we did get to a restaurant to have lunch which also took too long. Then a little bus tour around the island, and then back to the ferry. It felt like a waste of time. Instead, at the least we could have found a place to eat before the ferry and saved that time on the island to get out for a hike or see some other sites, such as the volcano museum that we drove by. One other less than ideal day was the first one, where it felt like we were driving around a little bit to kill time before arriving at the hotel. Turns out our rooms were not available anyway so we waited in the lobby for an hour. We could have used that time to have lunch someplace, or see something else specific in the Reykjavik area. Besides that, the days were good, Iceland is beautiful, we were pleased with the dinner menus throughout the week. The best day we had was an independent tour to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. That should have been part of the Smartours itinerary rather than Heimaey Island. The tour director did a good job and was very pleasant throughout. The bus driver was not the friendliest person, but did a good job driving. The hotels were all very nice as well, with good breakfast choices.

Iceland was a great trip. As always, our Tour Director, Gulla, was personable, informative and helpful. Accommodations were great. Food was delicious. Terrain was amazing and seeing tetonic plates above ground was fascinating. SmarTours is always the better value for any trips we look into and have enjoyed about 10 of them so far.
