Extra Information1. The Angelsounds Fetal Doppler is a heartbeat monitor designed to work from 14 weeks of pregnancy. Some customers have reported a clear, distinct heartbeat from 10 weeks.
2. The device must be in direct contact with the pregnant mother’s skin and used with sorbolene, hand lotion or face cream to conduct the sound.
3. The fetal heartbeat and sounds can be recorded to a computer, saved, replayed or emailed to friends and family.
4. The normal heart rate of an unborn baby is 120-160BPM. The detector is not a diagnostic device and you should consult your doctor if you are concerned about any aspect of your pregnancy or if sudden changes occur.
Common Questions
Does this product come with the Doppler gel? No. Due to Aust Post Freight Regulations, gel is considered a flammable substance and cannot be carried by air freight. We have asked the manufacturer to remove the gel sample at the factory. Professional Doppler gel is not required as it can be abrasive, acidic and irritating to the skin. Sorbolene, hand or baby lotions are just as effective.
Is this product safe and registered?
Yes, there are so many dopplers available online and very few of them have the strict quality control required by Australian Law. Our AngelSounds Doppler is fully registered with the Australian TGA - ARTG 236029, so you can buy with confidence. You are purchasing a high quality, safe and reliable home-use doppler.
Remember, a fetal doppler is not an ultrasound machine. An ultrasound uses very powerful probes (5-10MZ) at a much higher output level, whereas a fetal doppler only uses a 3MHZ probe at a much lower output level. For this reason, fetal dopplers are unable to detect a heartbeat before 8 weeks, and usually not before 10-12 weeks.
In addition, a fetal doppler should not be used as a substitute for regular prenatal care by your doctor or midwife. Any concerns about your pregnancy should be discussed with your medical practitioner.
Detection of a fetal heartbeat is not always an indication of a healthy pregnancy. Regular patterns of fetal movement and Mother's blood pressure are important indicators of a healthy pregnancy.

How to use a fetal Doppler?
A fetal Doppler is a device that checks and records the baby’s heartbeat. You can start monitoring the heartbeat of the baby from the 12th week of pregnancy. Some mothers say that they have heard the monitoring as early as the 10th week, but it can be difficult before the 12th week. Our fetal Doppler works best in monitoring the baby’s heartbeat from the 14th week.
To use a fetal Doppler, you want to be flat on a couch – a massage table can also do. Again, a full bladder may help you catch the small foetus’s heartbeat. Use sorbolene lotion to help maximize static reduction but avoid ultrasound gel because it can be acidic, irritating, and abrasive. Find the mother’s heartbeat first, to help you understand the type of sound produced by the doppler. Start looking for the baby’s heart rate low down on the pubic bone as you work your way up gently towards the belly button.
When looking for the heart rate, ensure you gently rock the probe side to side ensuring you don’t miss any areas within the bottom area of your stomach until you can hear the heartbeat. A fetal heartbeat is much faster than the mother’s own heartbeat, so you will know you are not confusing the 2 heartbeats.
Can you use a lotion with a fetal Doppler?
Yes, you should use a sorbolene style lotion or hand lotion with a fetal Doppler. It helps reduce static effects and enables smooth movement over the skin. Ultrasound gel is not required.
What sounds can you hear with a baby Doppler?
A fetal Doppler can pick the sound of a beating heart as well as swishing fluid and hiccups. So you want to be able to distinguish between these sounds. It can also pick up your own heartbeat; however, the foetus’ heartbeat is usually faster than the mothers – ranging from 120 to 180 bpm while yours as the mother would be about 60 to 100 bpm.
