“Always turned to GU for my distance runs and races because... Well that's what everyone else did and what the race courses had... But with the current situation down south, along with most Canadians, I started looking at alternatives. Doing some research I came across the Sun River Gels and decided to give them a try. Was really glad I did as I was missing out! Unlike GU, it doesn't have a weird chemical taste, just tastes natural like good honey. It fuels my runs well (I take one every half hour whenever I'm on a run longer than an hour), and the packaging is pretty good. All the flavours in the variety pack were superb but my favourite was the Matcha. I am in the midst of a marathon training block so I went through the first variety pack quickly and promptly ordered a couple of additional boxes of the Matcha flavour.
My only point of constructive feedback is for the packaging. Conceptually, the little handle at the top of each packet makes sense to keep your fingers from getting sticky after you tear it. But, in practice it makes the opening smaller than it should be. Because it's honey based, it's a little difficult to squeeze out when you're running. honey tends to less liquid and doesn't flow as smoothly so a larger opening would make it easier to consume. Not a huge deal, but just a quality of life suggestion.
Overall I am loving the product and will continue to use it as I have a few marathons and half marathons in the spring and fall season. You're my go-to now Sun River!
Also the free jar of honey was a great touch. It was delicious! Wish you offered it on the non-variety packs
Thank you!”
“Tastes good and texture is nice. The downside for me is it is very diffcult to eat while riding my bike. Packet is large and honey is quite thick so it is difficult to get it out. I will have to stop to eat it.”
“What can I say? As advertised! I have been running for a number of years and have consumed thousands of gels. The problem has always been how my stomach felt after consuming multiple gels during a long run, day hike, or ruck march. I have not had any issues with Sun River Honey gels. For me, it is the right amount of energy in a tasty pack. I ordered the variety pack and have enjoyed all the flavours. Well done A-Aron.”
“Gels are delicious and good fuel for my long runs. Consistency is a minor challenge as it's thick and if the weather is cooler then consumption is a bit difficult. Having said that, I will continue to use them on my training runs. All flavours are awesome!”
“These are truly as good as they say; I actually enjoy taking them on the run. I took 7 on my last 3 hour run, zero GI problems. I do find the package a little flat and it's hard to squeeze out all the contents, sometimes they're a little hard to rip open. But I'm dealing with that cause they are so much better than other gels.”
