Tentrr is your private camping experience. We connect adventurers like you with private landowners who want to share their land so you can experience new places.
“Had a fun time with family of 4 while staying at this Site. The cabin is great and would definitely come in handy if you happen to have some rainy weather to keep your gear dry, but thankfully we did not have to worry about this and enjoyed the nearby lake. The walk to the lake is worth the natural beauty once there and the water is great for swimming and taking the canoe out was a lot of fun to explore. Felicia was a great host and I would recommend to others.”
“Loved our stay at Ohana roots. Came up from Boston, but got stuck in traffic so arrived late at night. Felicia stayed up to show us around the site.
Campsite was wonderful and very private. The tent and wood stove kept us nice and toasty despite the weather being 35-40 degrees outside.
We took out Felicia’s canoe and kayak, and had a wonderful time out on the lake looking at the fall foliage (our stay was October 8-10).
Overall had an amazing time and would definitely stay here again!”
“We went on a trip for my son's 8th birthday with our 10 year old daughter. We loved the experience and the hosts were VERY accommodating since a major storm affected our original travel plans. This location is secluded, just about 1/2 mile to the pond, but a fun and quick hike. The pond is fun to use the canoe or kayak on. My only complaint is that the cooking grate by the firepit is hard to get level, but maybe that was inexperience too. This place is a great escape.”
“This was a real camping-in-the-woods experience. There is only one tent site, so it was completely private. You need to walk through the woods to get to Sandy Pond, but it was definitely worth it.
The access road to the tent site is very narrow with no turnaround at the site itself, so we liked to make the trip down to the turnaround spot at the end of the access road a 'pond excursion'. We'd put on our swim suits and clothes over those, jump in our car (a Subaru, with all-wheel-drive), drive down to the turnaround (carefully! the road is very steep and rocky, it heads down the side of a mountain), turn the car around, ready for the return journey (carefully! the turnaround is very tight) and then head off to the pond. It is about a quarter mile hike thru the woods after the road's end, well-blazed, but with some swampy parts to get across. We did it without getting wet or muddy, by careful negotiation. Then you emerge on a ridge and go down to the hosts' private shore, which was lovely.
Sandy Pond from the hosts' shore was amazing -- stretching out endlessly (it seemed) and not a single person or structure of any kind in sight when we were there in mid-week early August. The only other time I've had that kind of 'lake to ourselves' type of experience was when I canoed backpacked in Algonquin provincial park during the height of black fly season in June. But, this was far more comfortable (no exhaustion or grime; and no swarms of biting insects since it was August).
There is a small newly constructed floating dock to use to enter the water and there's a large flat stone just beyond the end of the dock to stand on in the water. We found the best strategy was to stand on the stone and then push into the water quickly without touching the bottom after that to avoid sharp stones. The lake drops off very rapidly and you are in deep water almost immediately, quite close to the shore, wonderful for swimming in.
The water is warm (Sandy Pond is classified by the state of Maine as a warm water pond), and our two kids had a blast and did not want to come out. Our younger daughter (age nine) decided to put on one of the life jackets that the hosts have there and that worked very well to keep her safe and secure-feeling while swimming like crazy.
The tent site itself was nice as well. This was our first time at a Tentrr site and it was definitely more luxurious than our previous camping experiences. The queen size bunk bed slept our family of four easily, with our two kids on the top queen and us on the lower. It got cold in the middle of the night each of the two nights we were there and we realized we needed insulation underneath us, as well as on top of us -- air mattresses act as heat sinks. Once we added insulation underneath us (a fleece blanket under the kids and some sleeping pads under us) we were very comfortable.”
“John andFelicia were wonderful hosts and the site was really beautiful, peaceful and well maintained. About a 15-20 minute walk down a dirt road and forest trail brings you to beautiful freedom pond where you can enjoy a canoe and swim in pristine waters. 30 minute drive from the gorgeous coastal town of Belfast is another plus. A perfect getaway. Highly recommend!”
