Tentrr is your private camping experience. We connect adventurers like you with private landowners who want to share their land so you can experience new places.
“Very quiet campsite with a great view of the night stars, including the Milky Way. We were totally relaxed during our stay and the host graciously provided dry fire wood, a grill, quick-lighting charcoal, and water. There isn't much of a view of the surrounding area from the site and you do have to walk up a short hill, but it's proximity to some great ponds for paddleboarding/kayaking and hiking trails can't be beat!”
“I'm a backpacker who's never liked car camping. The idea of being yards away from complete (and potentially loud) strangers always defeated the purpose of camping to me. Big Pond Mountain was my first Tentrr experience, and it absolutely fulfilled the connectedness and solitude of nature I get with backpacking, but with the luxury of being able to drive in and have basic creature comforts (table, canvas tent, toilet,etc.). Steve and Michelle were wonderful hosts who provided clear directions and recommendations for the area, and the site was lush and absolutely private. We spent most of our time at the camp site, getting well-needed R&R and listening to the sound of nothing but rustling trees–the perfect weekend getaway for this sensory-overloaded Manhattanite.”
“Michelle and Steve's campsite is perfectly situated atop a forested hill and it delivered everything we had hoped for as Tentrr first-timers: absolute privacy and seclusion. While you're only a couple hundred yards off the main road, there's neither sight nor sound of other campers or automobiles to worry about. This is true off-the-grid camping, with the luxuries of a cleared Tentrr site. We found an excellent spot in the woods, behind the big tent, to hang our hammocks and chill. There's also lots of wonderful hiking, as well as swimming and fishing at the lake (don't forget your fishing permit). But we were more than happy to spend most of our time embracing the peace and tranquility of the campsite — cooking, relaxing, and generally pondering ways to make this happen more often.
All you'll need to bring is food and drinks, which you can grab at the grocery store in Livingston Manor, on the way to the site. This was also a good spot to make any phone calls and send any last minute texts, as there isn't cell reception at the site.
If avoiding other humans and being able to hear the unadulterated sounds of rustling trees is what you desire, THIS IS IT!”
“Had a great time! Michelle was very helpful with providing suggestions on things to do, and everything was nicely set up before we arrived. Lots of beautiful nature around, and my 8 year old had a blast hiking and cooking over a fire!”
“I highly recommend Michelle's campsite. It's totally peaceful and secluded, 10 mins walk away from a great swimming and fishing lake, and in an excellent area. Michelle was a great campkeeper, and did everything she could to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. I can't wait to return.”
“If I could give this site 10 stars I would! Camping in the Catskills is something that my family has enjoyed for generations, but this was a truly unique and amazing experience! We’ve never explored this area of the Catskills before and we're so happy we chose to do so. The pristine mountains, lakes, and streams somehow feel untouched by civilization while only being 2 hours from NYC.
Michelle and her husband were wonderful hosts who had excellent suggestions for local hiking, swimming, kayaking, eating, drinking... you name it! The camp provided us far more comfort than we could've expected, while still making us feel like we were "living on our own mountain in a timeless land" as said by our 11 year old daughter:)
A gorgeous natural glacier lake (Big Pond), is about a half mile from the camp and we swam, fished, paddle boarded and kayaked a good portion of the first day there. We returned to our camp in the early evening and cooked the fresh trout we caught on the grill. Enjoying that dinner with my family, with no distractions but the sounds of birds and crickets in the distance is something I'll never forget. A truly magical day for me and my family!
Day two we followed the suggestions of our hosts and spent the day hiking to Balsam Mountain Fire Tower. All I can say is; Wow! The hike provided the perfect amount of exercise and immensely rewarding views from the fire tower!
After my children each completed successful school years, I wanted nothing more than to reward them with a "camping trip" and this far exceeded anything I could've hoped for. My family and I were in desperate need of a digital detox and I can't overstate the powerful connection to nature we experienced during our time at Big Pond Mountain.
My wife and I send a HUGE thanks to our hosts, Michelle and her husband, Steve! This trip was just what my family needed and we'll definitely be back soon!!”
