Tentrr is your private camping experience. We connect adventurers like you with private landowners who want to share their land so you can experience new places.
“The site was beautiful! The tentrrs were clean. The campfire/grill was perfect. The carts are not in great condition. But they did get our stuff to the site. Enjoyed are stay!”
“The site itself is on a beautiful lazy, shallow river, which we bathed in each morning (cold, but wonderfully refreshing). The tent is lovely, spacious and clean and next to a beautiful glade of flowers. Definitely worth the trip. You can hear cars in the distance, but it's quiet. One military plane flew over at one point at low elevation, but it was gone in seconds.
DO NOT, NOT, NOT trust the directions you are sent by Tentrr or the directions given by any member of the State Park staff. First off, your GPS will be sketchy up there. One campground employee told us to turn on Davis Trail and go up that trail. We did precisely that and hiked in 1.5miles under heavy pack but never found the campsite at dusk, then had to hike back, and ended up renting an expensive room at the lodge. The next day the lodge front desk told us a different location that was also wrong, which we discovered amid a light rain. Finally, quite by chance, we turned on an UNLABELED road where we happened upon the parking spots for Tentrr. There is no street sign for the maintenance road that we finally discovered the path is on. The campground maps are awful, poorly labeled and in such small print that we couldn't read it, especially at night. Campground staff are NOT well-informed on Tentrr location, and the gentleman at the desk even stated he had only seen the location once.
Once we finally found the location, it was great. But it's not as simple as Tentrr makes it sound. And we have camped many times, many states, many campgrounds.”
“I loved the location and the tent, the space is wonderful. My only complaint is that the information about the site was poorly provided. I was unsure of what came with the place (toilet paper, toilet bags, fire pit, blankets, etc.). Also, the address did not take me to the parking lot. I loved our stay, but I think it is important to note these issues. Thank you!”
“We just loved our little campsite on the Blackwater River. It was just what we needed. I appreciated having a heads up that there was about a 15 min walk from our car to the tent. We didn’t mind the walk as it added to the experience. We were able to wean everything down to what we only really needed, including firewood, which we towed in a wagon. We didn’t take much food to make out at the campsite, because we visit the area often and knew we had some our favorite restaurants to get food at while we were out hiking. The A and B sites were within an earshot, but our neighbors were not too loud so we didn't hear them too much at all, and the sites are secluded enough that you could not see them either. But really it was a very beautiful and peaceful site where you could enjoy the sounds and sites of nature. It might be helpful to know that not a lot of the tall grass and flowers in the area are cut back, just what is absolutely needed for the tent, table, fire pit, etc. This would have been a difficulty for us if we would have had our kids because there would not really have been anywhere for them to play.
We were supplied with a 5 gallon jug of water which was helpful, but would recommend bringing out a few jugs of your own. If anything, it would have been nice to have more than 1 bag supplied for the loo. Sarah the camp keeper was helpful and responsive to my questions.
We can’t wait to come back and visit again.”
“Overall, we had a positive experience at our stay and would consider using Tentrr again, just maybe not here due to all the walking and we’d probably pick a place with reviews already. We stayed at double site C in Blackwater Falls Campground. There are just a few things that held it back from being the perfect trip.
1. They said to use GPS coordinates versus the address to the lodge for an easier time finding everything. I would suggest going to the lodge address first and then putting the GPS coordinates in for the trail head. We had no trouble finding the lodge but the other half of our party tried switching to the coordinates once they got close but before they lost signal like recommended and ended up on the opposite side of the river, 20 minutes in the wrong direction. Our CampKeeper also advised they’d be able to lead us to our campsite any time between 2 and 4 but ended up not being available. Luckily the site was easy to find once we made it to the trail head, just something to note.
2. Overflow parking wasn’t clear for extra cars. We asked the person at the lodge front desk and they directed us to a parking lot a good bit away from the trail head so it is not safe to just park and walk to.
3. The walk is LONG and not for the faint of heart. This is noted in the description, but don’t underestimate it! We did, and we were exhausted by the time we got to our campsite. This was our fault though and not accounted for in my rating. The main trail was a pretty level walk, just full of smaller rocks but the smaller trail to the tent was full of huge rocks so keep that in mind for hauling belongings to the site. We ended up only doing the one main trail for Blackwater Falls on our trip here because we were too tired to do anything else after trekking back and forth from the campsite to the trail head where the vehicle was.
4. You do hear highway noise at the campsite we stayed at. Not a big deal to us, but worth noting especially when you consider how long you have to walk to get to the campsite.
5. As far as outdoor advertised amenities go, the CampBox for both tents was full of ants and not usable when we got there (it ended up getting cold part way through the trip and chasing them off but we weren’t comfortable using it after the amount of ants we saw when we first got there). The benches and table were also in brush so we had to pull the benches out to be able to use them, but the tables were too much to move or too far in the brush. These were put back after our stay because that’s where we found them. One of the tents did not have a lid for the trash can that we could find so we only had one to use between both tents. The chairs are also not the most comfortable to just sit in, they’re leaned back super far so only really nice for napping and not for hanging out in. The fire pits were also missing brushes they mentioned to use to clean it but luckily we came prepared and were able to clean the grill before leaving.
6. The propane heater was also only in one of the tents and it was not usable. The propane tank was empty and there was no hose to connect the tank to the heater. The listing didn’t say anything about it not being available or to bring your own propane and it got down to 40 one night so it would have been nice to have even just one working one.
7. They advertise smaller additional tents that you can set up for more space but there is nowhere flat and level to put them at this site. The porch might have been big enough but we didn’t bother trying to move the chairs to find out. We luckily had plenty of room in the big canvas tents for everyone so we didn’t even pull the smaller ones out but is just another thing that would have been nice to know before we got there. Also, a lot of the metal buckles on the further canvas tent entrance flaps were gone, I think dry rotted off. The other one was fine. You could roll up the flaps and tie them but you couldn’t just fold it up and tie it at the buckle due to missing ones.
8. They charge a $50 cleaning fee if you leave anything behind but there was trash in one of the tent fire pits when we got here (a couple wrappers and a bunch of cigarette butts - none of us smoke). We ended up cleaning it up ourselves even though we didn’t use the fire pit on that side because we didn’t want to get charged for it.
Overall, we still feel like this was worth the trip. The view from our tents were incredible. We were right on the river and you couldn’t even see any other campsites from ours. The beds were decently comfortable and the ease of not having to set a tent up was such a relief, along with having a fire pit accessible. There was also a beaver dam right across from the first tent and we saw a couple of them swimming!! Which was so cool. We still had fun all things considered and overall don’t regret our trip.”
