Tentrr is your private camping experience. We connect adventurers like you with private landowners who want to share their land so you can experience new places.
“The Tentrr sites had tremendous views of Starvation Reservoir. My camp guide was very communicative and made sure that I had what I needed for my trip. She even went so far as to research what I needed to go fishing in Starvation. I'd recommend this experience for anyone who looks for the escape from the big city and enjoys water recreation.”
“I’ve stayed at many before and this by far was the worst I’ve ever stayed at. Built very poorly just to take your money. You drive through a dump yard to get to your tent. The view is good but never will I stay here again. Ants are crawling on you all night.”
We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Our CampGuide has checked the tent for ants and no activity has been found since your departure. The approach to this campsite is managed by the park - we have engaged the park to see if anything can be done to address that concern in the future but it is not land that Tentrr controls. We use high-quality canvas tents and construction materials at our campsites and have received positive feedback on them from other campers. Tentrr, like any park vendor, is providing a service that generates revenue but we also aim to offer a hassle-free, enjoyable outdoor escape with ready access to park amenities.
“Loved this place! Located in a hill above the resivour so the views were amazing. The tent is pretty secluded from the other ones around it. We were able to enjoy water activities and camp while still being able to relax. We absolutely loved it!”
“Amazing! The tent is so cute and the view of the res is just beautiful. We had our dog with us and she ran around off leash exploring the whole hill-we had the site to ourselves. Although the other 2 tents are far enough away it still felt secluded when one was booked on our last day. 10/10 would recommend”
“This was our first experience with Tentrr. My husband and I spent 2 nights at this Tentrr sight with our two kids. Both of our kids are under the age of 10. While we will definitely be using Tentrr again as the concept is AWESOME, we won't return to this site. The site had some flaws we would not want to experience a second time.
General Pro of Tentrr:
Loved that the place was ready for us on our arrival, and was (somewhat) secluded. Loved that we could stand up in the tent no problem. Loved that we could move the queen bed over and squeeze in two twin air mattresses on the floor that we brought with us for our kids to comfortably sleep as well. Loved the propane heater that kept us warm at night.
General Con of Tentrr:
Maybe a little too expensive for the value. We paid $140 a night (base).
Pro for this specific site:
The site has a beautiful view over the reservoir, and very dark skies. My husband took some magnificent pictures of the milky way with long exposure time on his camera.
Cons for this specific site:
1. There was no sign from the main road, and very small signage in random places once we found the right side road and dirt tracks. (For future campers, head up towards the ranger residence, then once you get to the top of the hill and before driving to the ranger's house, look for a sign on a chain link fence where boats are stored that points you to a dirt track. Keep following the signs, though they are small they are there once you find the first one). Our camp attendant did not provide sufficient directions, then no showed when she had promised to meet us, even though we had called an hour before arrival and confirmed our arrival time. Then she didn't answer the phone when we were lost. We spent 30 minutes driving around looking for the site. We had GPS coordinates from a picture the camp attendant had emailed, but the side road and dirt tracks aren't mapped on google maps so it was super hard to find in the dark.
2. At this site there are 3 Tentrr tents on top of a bluff overlooking the reservoir, presumably sites 1, 2 and 3. However, they weren't labeled in any way, and without our attendant being their or answering her phone, we didn't know which one was ours. Frustrating. We finally figured it out by matching the picture of the view on the Tentrr site with the view from the right Tentrr.
3. This site 3 is about 300 yards away from where the Ranger makes you park your car. (Sorry Ranger! We had thought we could park our SUV next to the tent and that's why we lowered the chain barricade and drove in). So don't take so much stuff, like we did, thinking you'll drive up to your tent. The Ranger will rapidly correct you if you do!
4. Be warned. This Tentrr site is on top of a bluff which can be windy. The first night was so windy that my husband and I got about 2 hours of sleep. I don't mind wind, but a canvas tent with metal poles makes a heck of a racket in the wind. Canvas flapping, metal poles creaking, I felt we were on an old pirate ship at sea! The second night was much better since the wind wasn't as strong.
5. Also be warned, and this is no fault of Tentrr, but the fire pit can't be used during high fire danger season. Fortunately we could drive down the the Beach Campground below us and briefly hang out at an unused camp firepit for our kids to make some smores with a real fire.
6. The Tentrr loo at this site had a collapsed green privacy tent around it. But the wind is too strong on the bluff and the privacy tent won't stay up, so it's more of a nuisance than anything.
7. This Tentrr site is within about 80-90 yards of the adjacent Tentrr site (site 2). So we could sometimes see our Tentrr neighbors, and we could definitely hear their crying baby. Also, the nearby ranger residence has a partially obstructed view of this Tentrr site. For the cost I was expecting much more isolation and privacy.
7. My kids really wanted to use the camp shower. But there is no tree tall enough at the site to hang it on, nor could we get the valve to work correctly, so I ended up just dumping the warm water on them, which they enjoyed. Still, not the hoped for experience.
HOWEVER, the concept of Tentrr is very cool, so we hope to do it again and we will be sure to book a site during a season with these features:
1. We can park the car closer to.
2. Is more isolated.
3. Is less likely to be wind blasted.
4. We have great directions of how to get to before we head there.
5. That we know we can have a campfire at.”
