“Grist Ranch was a lovely mix of backcountry solitude and accessibility. 4 of us stayed and thought it was absolutely beautiful and serene. To be honest coming here in the dark was a bit spooky but it ended up being a wonderful weekend getaway! Before arriving the campkeeper was responsive and helpful in what to do and expect upon arrival. I highly recommend downloading offline maps of the area before leaving as there is very little reception in the valley and surrounding towns. Seeing the small Tentrr sign at the entrance of the ranch was helpful in finding the correct driveway. Having a SUV helped with the bumps in the dirt road leading up to the campsite. There's a fork in the dirt road after crossing the gates on the property leading to the site, be sure to stick to the left! It was a little tricky to see at night. The Tentrr setup was clean, well kept and had all the basics (water, air mattress, pillows, toilet paper, etc...). It got pretty windy and cold at times but the tent handled it well. Two of us stayed on the air mattress provided and two stayed on an extra mattress we brought just at the foot of the bed. The tent felt spacious enough for all us. We stayed in September and during the day we experienced hot, cold, and even a sprinkle of rain so be prepared! I'm glad I brought extra blankets. The nearby grocery store had everything and was easy to get to. There's some bouldering/rock climbing in nearby Dos Rios along Eel River but the climb levels were very, very difficult and we aren't totally sure if we found the correct climbing areas. Eel River was low at the time of our stay but still fun to explore! We found some very interesting rocks of all colors. Our favorite part was when we laid out our climbing crashpads at the site, relaxed, looked up and saw most beautiful starry sky. We were able to see shooting stars and the milky way! The mornings were filled with distant cow moos (no cow smells though) which added to the fun for us city dwellers. I'd recommend this spot and we'd love to come back!”
“We had an amazing stay at Grist Creek Ranch. The campsite is located in the most serene area perched atop a hill that provides complete privacy and relaxation. The site boasts beautiful scenery for amazing sunrises in the morning and beautiful star gazing at night.
This place is a pet-family's dream - our husky pup had the time of his life roaming around the property.
We had a tough time finding the site since we arrived after dark but Sherrie was able to come and meet us & show us the way - I would suggest that the directions be updated to include the distance needed to drive in on the ranch since it currently only gives references to hills & turns in the road. The camp site is a good 1.5 mile drive in which we weren't aware & it is tucked up on the side of a hill so it could be tough to find (especially at night!).
We are hoping to come back to Grist Creek Ranch again soon!We had an amazing stay at Grist Creek Ranch. “More than I could have hoped for. I had a very peaceful and perfectly relaxing stay at Grist Creek Ranch Tentr. The property was in a low cell service area and it was incredibly helpful to have written directions with a downloaded map (provided by owners) when arriving- as I came it late at night in the dark. Everything was exactly as described (although the listing was pictured with a bunk bed, there was a queen size bed instead- which ended up working out since my fellow guest couldn't come after all, but it would be nice for the picture on the listing to reflect the actual bed situation to avoid confusion). The Setting was wild feeling yet very accessible. Set on the top of a beautiful wooded oak area with extra breeze situated in the top of a hill, with gorgeous view of Round Valley and Covelo. Only thing that was a little underwhelming was the solar shower- Im no expert and have never had one, nor do I know how better to design one with a stronger water flow- but it was basically a dribble for me when I used it. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat though!”
