This review is for the novice. First, I will say the concept is great for someone like myself who’s never camped before. I highly recommend trying camping through this method but with caveats. When my friend shared this with me, we thought it would be like glamping, this is more like facilitated camping. They provide the bare essentials as noted on the site. Erika and her husband were very nice and knew some local things to and the best features of their farm are the lavender field and brook running through it. The lavender harvest is in July, so go then if that’s a particular draw. We arrived after several days of rain and although it never rained while we were there, the rain caused some logistical issues. First, the route to the camp is a long one and the path was so muddy you needed 4WD to make it through. We only learned of this that day. The campkeepers were concerned that we would get stuck and were kind enough to us (and our things) on their truck through the muck to the actual site. Thankfully, one of us who arrived later had 4WD, which became very important when we had to tackle the second major issue – wet wood. We also got the firewood bundle, which meant nothing because all the wood was too wet. I messaged Erika about this but she and her husband were out to dinner, so after over an hour of trying to start the fire we had to get charcoal. If our friend didn’t have 4WD, we would have been completely stuck w/o a fire. The bunk situation seemed cute until you try to sleep on the air mattresses, which squeaked uncontrollably against the wood any time you made the slightest move; ironically sleeping bags are an advantage here. The endless squeaking combined with the deafening silence of nature, it was almost impossible to get any shut eye. Also, the way the tent is set up on the deck there are gaps so a fully sealed tent is an advantage here too. The deck off the ground is great but it’s at a height that may be uncomfortable if you have any issues bending your hip/knee past a certain point. I will also mention that the solar shower is not really any option here. Apparently, the campkeeper’s nearest hose was broken and a long walk away from the site. I was really disappointed by this. I thought they would have set up a basic location for us to use this feature and access to water would not have been impossible. When I asked about this when we first arrived, I was surprised Erika seemed shocked that we even wanted to use it. You offer it, right? Finally, we never saw from Erika even after they said they were going to come back to fill our Tiki torches with fluid. We ended up just using one of the extra citronella candles we had. We didn’t see her until we all decided to leave the next day. Two of us were going to stay the second night but didn’t have cars and thought we could take the metro north back. When I asked Erika how we could get back she said that there were Uber and two Metro North trains nearby but not which two stops. Instead of asking, I looked on the map and found two stations but on the East side of the Hudson. I wish she just said Middleton and Port Jervis were the closest but I also should have asked. Finally, this location is okay and the area is very pretty, but do your homework. Erika and her husband are nice but they’ve only been doing this for a year and still not fully acquainted to the fact that they’ve entered the hospitality industry.

The campsite was tucked away in the back of a farm property. There was a running stream on site which the kids had fun in. The campsite had the typical Tentrr amenities, and then there was running filtered water a short hike away if needed. We met the camp keepers as well as someone working on the farm there, and everyone was very nice and accommodating. One note....the driveway was a little rugged as it approached the site. We got through ok in my awd car, but it could have been an issue if it was really loaded down. Worst case would have been having to hike in the last 200-300 yards.

If you are an inexperienced or complete newbie group of campers, you really can't do better than this site, especially if you're traveling from the NYC area. Erika and Kent were incredibly responsive and helpful, and there are plenty of restaurants and shops in easy driving distance. The site is deep in pine forest and the smell is amazing. The creek and the swimming hole have a really nice variety of temperatures--cold spots even on a blazing-hot day, and shallower places warmed by the sun that would be nice even on a cooler day. Crayfish and frogs abound, but amazingly not a ton of mosquitoes. My daughter is normally eaten alive but got only one bite (and that was without repellant). The weather gods weren't with us on this trip: it was 95+ degrees and humid and thunderstorming. We ended up leaving early as a result, but that's another one of the great features of this site; it's so close to NYC that it was painless to hop back into the car and drive home to air conditioning, having had an outdoor adventure, a few toasted marshmallows, and our first taste of camping. And Erika even invited us to come back in nicer weather to make up the day we missed. :) Minor advice: the GPS takes you to the location where a dirt road leading to the farm splits off from the main road. If you are coming from the NYC direction, the street sign is very easy to miss, and the turnoff of the road is hidden in trees. There is a house with a street number just past it so you'll know you've missed the turning: turn around and go back and you'll find it easier to see the sign from the other direction. You definitely want a car that can handle dirt roads and steep hills; we rented a standard SUV and it handled the road all the way to the site with no problem.

Camp Winterton was a private paradise nestled between beautiful trees and streams. On the short drive to the site, we passed gorgeous, open fields of lavender next to a lovely produce farm. The large canvas tent had a queen sized bunk bed and the air mattresses were already blown up. As soon as we arrived we were able to relax right away in the hammock, chairs, and table provided. The CampKeeper was very helpful and welcoming and even carried our bags in their truck to the site. We had an incredible, relaxing getaway and I highly recommend booking Camp Winterton through Tentrr!

Camp Wingerton was great place to stay and a lovely couple own the farm and campsite. they are very nice and full of hospitality. We stayed there at last weekend of June 2018, and it was perfect family campout. Highly recommend. We just drove 1 hour 10 minutes and got the site surrounded by wood. So we left home right after work like 6pm and still enough time to set up everything for that night. The site is really quiet and you can hear just stream and birds singing , nothing else. You can swim in swimming hole next the site and you can enjoy fishing too. Also I heard you can catch crayfish. There is not many bugs / mosquito surprisingly, (or citronella candles the owner prepared for us really worked) and tentrr updated canvas tent with put screen under the floor so definitely less bugs inside the tent. Very impressive. My 14 and 11 years old used queen size bunk bed in canvas tent and 8 years old , my husband and I used dome tent. We had a good night sleep. No one complained. Dome tent is enough big and tall even my 6"4' tall hasband can stand up and also easy to set up. I could set it up with 11 years old son. I added unlimited firewood option and truly they gave us tons of them. It was a bit rained but trees are enough to make shelters for us and fire were still going on even in a rain. Erika, camp keeper welcomed to us when we got there and that time she has yoga class which she is organizing in her lavender field ! Looked awesome. Next day her husband took us a Maple syrup tour and was very interesting also we could buy tasty farm made syrup and maple cream ( it's spread made from 100% maple syrup. It's so good and that is our new favorite!) . Erika texted me from Farmers market if we want to get some local produce. Very nice and great to know there is many interesting local products in that area like hard cider, lavender wine and of course, their maple cream etc.. you should ask them what's good. They told us many interesting thing to get to eat or drink /place to visit. I strongly recommend this site. We would love to go back again !
