“Janet and Dave were incredibly hospital hosts when we visited in August! We felt right at home at their lake front campsite, which was clean and well equipped. They checked us in and also were available to give us recommendations about stores and hiking areas near Mt St Helens. The canoe, fishing pole, and s'mores topped off our perfect camping getaway. “Camping at Lake Scanewa was so much more than we expected! Dave and Janet are such wonderful hosts. This was our first time booking a place with a camp keeper as we usually camp in public campsites or private house rentals in the forest that do not have face-to-face check-ins. But we are so happy this was our first experience having someone greet us as we pulled up. They were more than happy to answer any questions and provide any help that we needed. They have a beautiful, secluded space to camp. Often we forgot anyone else was around. We spent lots of time on the water playing on the paddle boat and canoe provided as well as fishing with our own poles as well as the ones provided. They had what I liked to call a goodie shack at the campsite that was full of useful and fun items such as fishing poles, life jackets for all ages, bug spray, sunscreen and so much more!
We were so sad when our time was up but will definitely be camping again!! This was so perfect for our entire family. There were 5 of us, our youngest being 10 months old. There was plenty of activities to do in our private campsite. The kids enjoyed following the trails and seeing a variety of small critters on their adventures.
The absolute only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the walk to the provided restroom was a bit far and some of us found it difficult to make the walk uphill to the restroom if they had a bathroom emergency. Other than this one slight factor it was beautiful, private and amazing. Whether we were sitting at the campfire looking out at the vast body of water in front of us or looking up at the star-lit sky at night, this was one of our absolute favorite locations to have the luxury of discovering and will be more than happy to return once more!

“The hosts have created a lovely spot. They were very thoughtful and accessible while supporting the privacy we wanted. It was perfect for a pandemic-safe opportunity to take grandkids camping.
