“Fantastic piece of property with spacious and well-separated camp sites. Red Door has a nice flat area for a large tent, well padded with pine needles, and plenty of trees to hang sleeping hammocks . All are near the large fire ring (firewood is available just up the road for a small fee). The adjacent pond was full of lilies when we were there and apparently has enough fish and frogs to keep the mosquito population to reasonable levels (it is Maine after all - bring DEET).
The host, Mark, has put together an ingenious loo in the woods consisting of a portable marine toilet in an enclosed changing room-style tent. It's private, clean and less smelly than any other camp toilet I've come across.
As for Mark, he's a character - he comes on a bit strong but is really there to help ensure you enjoy your stay. He has some great recommendations on nearby eats (the Five Islands lobster shack is not to be missed) and showed genuine interest in our well-being during our brief stay.
Next time we're in the area we'll definitely be back!”
