“For quite a number of years, both myself and my wife thought next time we should replace our Hi-Fi speakers with a smaller, possibly stand mount type, mainly due to the fact that our living room is, weÕll shall we say small. That was until I got interested in the ATC SCM40A active speakers, and if you are considering them you will know that they are not small or light for that matter. But after some deliberation with Jack at The Audiobarn we purchased a pair in black ash to go with our Hugo TT and Auralic Aries, and I must say since installing them into our living room and getting over the shock, they are an excellent speaker. It took I would say 2 monthÕs for them to Òbreak inÓ, but the transformation they have made makes us certain that we would not consider any other speaker brand again, or replace these for that matter. The build quality from ATC is the best one can get and being a 3 way speaker actively driven from their own internal (ÒQuiet as a MouseÓ) amplifier is something special. We thought we had heard all our music at their best, but with these speakers I would say 30 per cent was missing, that in itÕs self was quite a surprise. Being a big speaker doesnÕt mean loud, as we have found out and in fact we use them from dawn till dusk playing Internet radio at fairly low volumes and unlike previous speakers they make you want to sit down and listen to whatÕs playing. With CDÕs or HI-DEF music they are simply stunning and also well suited to a small room.”
