Stunning speakers. Oak finish is lovely and we like the unfancy rectangular box look. They appear to be very well built with real attention to detail. But of course it's all about the sound and WOW! To our ears these are brilliant. Never had active speakers before and so impressed with these. Not sure you can ever justify spending so much on a pair of speakers but we listen to a lot of music and it feels like money well spent. Love the ATCs.

These speakers are remarkable. I bought the passives as they have a perfect synergy with my Naim system (552DR/300DR). The sound is 'true' - transparent, revealing, uncolored (but never cold or dispassionate), dynamic and immersive. Amazing bass (full, rich but not overwhelming), the treble is sparkly and clear and the midrange (from those incredible drivers) steals the show and provides a unique ATC signature - all perfectly balanced. The sound is arresting, but never analytical or tiring. They've transformed my listening room into a jazz club. End game speakers for me...

I recently bought an ex demo pair of ATC SCM50 Active SL Classic speakers, to replace my ATC 100 ATSL Anniversaries. Regretfully I needed to downsize to a smaller monitor, to fit into a smaller listening room, but didn't want to compromise on performance. The 50 Actives are perfect, not quite as dynamic as the 100's, but perfect for the room size. I'd recently upgraded my source components to an Auralic G2.1 with a Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC and am immensely impressed with the matching with the 50's. I've been using ATC active speakers and ancillaries for 30 years or so and still haven't found any manufacturer with the same pedigree, reliability and performance for the money. Expensive, yes, but everything performs perfectly, even after 15years, and they can still be repaired and upgraded by the factory. Excellent!

This is my 2nd pair. The first time (20 years ago), they transmitted the weaknesses in digital replay too well for their own good, now they provide excellent insight into the music. I am lucky to have two systems, this and another (10x the cost of the SCM50s) which was put together to provide extremely detailed reproduction. They are very different listening experiences, but the ATCs are extremely enjoyable with high non-intrusive detail and excellent unforced dynamics, even when compared to the other one. I am very happy that I returned to them

Having recently purchased a pair of beautiful looking and sounding ATC scm50 asl l thought l would share my thoughts with you regarding these speakers. This medium size traditional box style loudspeaker is built to an exemplary standard of finish looking drop dead gorgeous in the pippy oak veneer finish. It's a fine example of British technology and engineering and in house manufactured at its best. This refinement of a continual refinement of the soft dome drive unit by ATC has created one of the world's great loudspeakers in the scm 50! In terms of sound quality the scm 50 asl is highly neutral sounding, with compelling tight and dynamic bass . This just sails into an uncannily natural midrange and a sweet and fluid treble. The whole sound landscape is utterly seamless and very detailed. Such a natural and truthful performance means that you can listen at high volumes without fatigue.

ATC SCM50ASLs are excellent all-round performers which seem to favour no particular musical genre. They mostly just get out of the way and let you listen to the music. The bass is tight, deep for the size, and has responded well to tuning through placement at the right distance from room boundaries. In the midrange, voices sound well balanced without undue emphasis. The top end is clear and detailed. They produce clear and stable stereo images. They allow me to hear recorded detail very clearly and have a good enough dynamic range to reproduce close-miked piano with ease at a level that brings such recordings into focus.
