Upgrading to the ND5 was nothing short of amazing. I honestly thought there wouldn't be a massive difference in audio quality, digital is digital is digtal I thought. Was so wrong, its a big jump up. The sound is fantastic, built well and satisfyingly weighty. A lot of streamers have a display this doesnt but it really doesnt matter.

I auditioned the ND5XS 2 at home with a Supernait 3 Integrated amp and compared against the Uniti Star. I had also tested a Cambridge CXN v2 previously. Really liked the Uniti Star - great clarity and power delivery - I particularly like having a display and though that this would discount the ND5XS2, but after a couple of days using it accessing all the control from the app on my phone/ iPad - worked a treat - very robust and informative. I liked the fact that everyone in my house could download the app and put their own music on at will (or listen to internet radio or connect via bluetooth). It may seem almost counter-intuitive to some not to have a display but once you have the app up and running it's great. There is the obvious synergy between Naim products and I can control the volume of the amp from the my ipad/phone, select sources, playlists, switch it on/off/ mute - the control is very comprehensive and i would rather have this than a display TBH. Soundwise for streaming I think the Star/ Nova and ND5XS2 are very close but with a very slight (and I mean slight) improvement with the ND5XS2. Added to this the fact that I can plug my old Arcam CD player into this and the DAC conversion in the ND5XS2 improves the sound of this also. But to me the biggest push towards the ND5XS2 was to use in conjunction with the Supernait 3 amp - which allows me to play vinyl without unnecessary DAC conversions needed for the Star/Nova. The ND5XS2 sounds superb, is very flexible and I do not miss not having any display - the Naim app is brilliant to use! Jack was very kind in letting me audition at home- gives opportunity for a more worthwhile audition. All in all very pleased with this purchase

Excellent quality at a reasonable price point - I strongly suggest people tempted by the Uniti Nova to have a listen to this "entry level" streamer, paired with Naim's integrated amplifiers (ND5 XS2 + NAIT XS3 combo is pretty matching the Nova on price), and appreciate the "wow" moment. This is a superb product and not one anybody is likely to regret buying.

I already owned a Naim ND5 XS (Mk 1) - so I knew how good these things can sound with Tidal streaming and UPnP NAS sources. I purchased the upgrade to the Mk 2 version to get Qobuz HiRes streaming which the Mk 1 version does not support directly within the system platform.
