“The SG1 really is an incredible record player, and a wonderful example of British design, engineering and manufacturing at its very best. My listening is 99% jazz, and I couldn't imagine hearing this music presented any more eloquently. The clarity is breathtaking - you can literally hear the bass players fingers moving across the strings, the snare wires vibrating against the skin, the sustain of the most gentle cymbal tap, the breath of the sax player. But this is in no way clinical - there is just a control, an authority and a coherence, totally surrounded by an utter absence of background noise, that makes you forget the record player and just immerse yourself in the music. Which I guess is the point! I've seen reviews comparing the SG1 favourably to 6 figure "super decks". The biggest compliment I can pay it, is that I have absolutely no desire, need or interest in making this comparison myself. It really is that good. A word of warning though - once you've heard the SG1, you can't unhear it! It is also worth touching on Vertere as a company, and its incredible after sales care. Let's be honest - this is a big investment - but the after sales service is probably the best I have ever encountered. They are great people with a passion for good science, engineering and music, but also for doing things right. And they know a thing or two about outstanding Scotch whisky too, which makes me like them even more.....”
