Read The Green Reaper Reviews

The Lawnflite Optima 38VO petrol lawn scarifier has a rugged steel deck with a working width of 38cm (15"). It is equipped with durable fixed tines made of special steel which ensure a thorough job, whilst the rear-mounted 50 litre debris collector catches the raked out material, making this a one pass operation, ideal for gardens around 1500 square metres in size.
Depending upon the scale of the job in hand, the working depth of the Optima 38VO scarifier can be simply adjusted via a lever mounted on the handle. This ensures you can select the correct setting for either light scarification or heavier verticutter application without the need for tools. In addition to the scarifier shaft, a dethatcher shaft is included.
The Lawnflite Optima 38VO is powered by an MTD ThorX 55H engine with easy starting thanks to the cord minder. Weighing 29kg, this petrol scarifier is comfortable to use and easy to transport and store thanks to the large 7" wheels and ergonomic, fully folding handle.

SEEMS TO BE A FIRST CLASS SCARIFIER. OPENED THE BOX, SET UP THE MACHINE, PUT IN THE OIL AND PETROL, SE THE CHOKE, PULLED THE STARTER CORD AND OFF IT WENT. SO FAR NO TROUBLE AND IT PULLED OUT A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF MATTING AND MOSS.. I COULD HARDLY BELIEVE IT.

It did the job really well, here's what to do though ! The actual scarifier cassette isn't great, the tines break easily, NOTE I have about half an acre of lawn ! So I used the verticutter cassette and it worked fine and dug out most of the moss, there was a lot of it ! The collector box is a waste of time ! I used cable ties to hold open the flap at the back, at an angle so that the moss etc. could get out of the machine, but not throw too much directly back into my shins LOL. Some sort of side discharge would be helpful. I used a standard lawn rake to rake it into heaps and a ton bag to gather it up and drag it to the compost heap ! The motor ran well and it starts easily first pull ! It's reasonably easy to work out how to put it together out of the box. I later found the pictorial instructions on a separate sheet tucked into the back of the instructions. So all in all I am happy with the purchase and the customer service provided by The Green Reaper. Delivery to Ireland took about five working days from memory.

The machine is clearly designed and priced for occasional domestic use, i.e. it is not as robust as some professional models I have used. That said, it works just as well and the changeable blades (aerator and rake bars) are a good feature. The "MTD Thor" engine seems to be identical to the Chinese engines fitted to many machines these days. It starts easily and runs well. I have scarified a 1600sqm lawn with good results. All in all it is good value for money and I am pleased with it. However, I think a more robust machine would be required for more than occasional, domestic use.
