The Handy THS125 56kg Push Broadcast Spreader Reviews

Read The Green Reaper Reviews

The Handy 125lb push garden spreader is designed for the quick dispersal of free flowing, dry material such as fertiliser, weed killer and sand over the ground. It incorporates a rate setting feed control on the handle to enable you to determine the precise amount of spread.
The spreader has a large 56kg capacity robust plastic hopper with strong yet comfortable metal handles and pneumatic tyres, which allow for manoeuvering over the trickiest of terrain. The 10 - 12 foot spread width will make short work of any spreading task around the garden.
Designed with a metal gear drive, the Handy THS125 lawn spreader comes complete with screen and rain cover.

Our greenkeeper tells me it's an improvement on the machine it replaced. It required more assembly than I anticipated, but once I a built it I passed it to our green staff for eval., & after receiving their feedback it took around 10mins to rectify. On the matter of assembly, I found the instruction booklet was quite confusing in parts, & I'm sure at least one step was missed from the list of steps. As it was cheaper than other spreaders of that capacity, & some much smaller, I find the VFM is really good. There is one aspect of it that I find unsatisfacory & that is the closing mechanism for the drop-through aperture. The connecting-rod between the operating handle tends to contort during closing, leaving a gap of about 6-10mm & this has to be closed manually, which is not ideal when turning at the end of the green, or taking the machine off the green, when there is still material in the hopper. I feel a more substantial closing mechanism is required.

To be honest - I hadn't realised the spreader I bought required assembly, but I got stuck in & found the 'detailed' illustrations were confusing in places, possibly due to the size & quality of the manual. There were a couple of fairly essential steps missed from the instructional text as well. Nothing I couldn't overcome, however, & my greenkeeper is happy with how it performs. Of course that would be a problem more for the manufacturer rather than the retailer.
