“I very much prefer the design efficiency of the sport-tourer genre and for me, the zzr is one of the few bikes that still looks good with full-luggage.
I have changed the sprocket sizes, going from a 17 to a 19-tooth front, and from a 43 to a 38-tooth rear, this has increased fuel economy on a run from 65 to 75 mpg, with no noticeabvle drop in performance, such is the torque available.
70mph now equals 3200rpm, as opposed to 4200rpm previously.
The fairing provides great weather protection, the ride is comfy, and the handling always feels as though the bike is on your side. Its a great place to spend time.
By far and away the best bike I have owned, Kawasaki really threw everything they knew at this model, and over-engineered it.
Fifteen years since it rolled off the production line, its a very reassuring bike, and doesn't feel obsolete.”
“Absolutely thrilled with this bike.
20 years ago you could,nt buy anything faster!
Today its worth just over a grand. Scares the life out of me over 8000 revs.
Such a thrill for absolute peanuts!”
“I got this as a very second hand machine that a previous owner had attempted to 'street fighter' by removing the fairing, and replacing the perfectly good lights with some rubbish ones.
This bike uses oil and water like no other I've ever had and now the brakes have been serviced it stops as well as it goes.
When it's working properly, it's brilliant until you get an hour into your journey when the concrete seat takes it's toll .
it goes like the clappers when you ask it to (on private roads of course) but will happily cruise on long journeys carrying plenty of luggage without missing a beat. just be prepared to stop before your get to the point of wanting to amputate your own bum.”
“Great all round bike. Have fitted handlebar risers to take weight off my (old) wrists, and also stainless brake hoses a big improvement. Also have fitted a replacement seat ( Mrs more comfortable now). More than enough power and handles well for a big bike. I ride mainly 2 up and is great bike for this. No problems with reliability even though 19 years old.”
“I have had this 14 year old bike for the last 18 months, and I haven't regretted it at all.
Reliable, smooth, comfortable, economical and powerful, with great luggage capability, this bike has it all.
If there is one drawback, I would improve upon is the headlight power, but apart from that, it's the consummate mile-muncher.”
