“I wanted to get back to motorcycling after a ten year gap. I saw a BMW F800ST for sale in Leicester and thought that it would fill my requirements very well. That it was affordable, reasonable to run and service and above all, fun. It is all of the above and the Insurance is very reasonable too.”
“Returning to Motorcycling after a fifteen year break I wanted a BMW as I had a R1100RS as my previous bike and loved it. However the current range of the R series does not have an equivalent and I could not justify a K series or an S to myself, based on the mileage I thought I'd ride each year. Then one day in Cromer, near my home, I saw an F800GT and thought it would suit me very well. Again, I could not go for the GT version so I started looking for an ST. I saw several reviews on You Tube and the more I saw the more I thought that a ST would do me.
I found a 2010 version at Fasttrack Motorcycles in Leicester and arranged to go and see it. The staff there were great and a quick test ride confirmed my hopes. I was able to ride it home to Norfolk that day and after only a few minutes out of Leicester I felt quite at home with the ST. The Parallel twin is smooth and responsive, the brakes are very good and the handling confidence inspiring. I am in my early sixties and this is just what I wanted to get me back into motorcycling.”
“I love this bike. The best of five bikes I have owned..power is fine handling is fine.like the petrol tank under seat like the fact that with a pillion it alters nothing..only gripe
Do not ride it everyday.”
“Having covered 2200 miles in the four months i have owned the motorcycle in am very pleased with the economy 67 to 72 mpg the light weight and agility compared with the two motorcycles i sold to purchase this one. (BMW K1200RS and a Suzuki Gladius SV 650).
One major negative of this motorcycle is the lack of a good quality on board tool kit which all my previous BMWs came with as standard equipment, and when i have assembled my own tool kit the lack of on board storage.
Their is a slight vibration at 4000 to 5000 RPM 70 to 85 MPH, annoying but no a great concern.”
“This is mostly my dream bike. It handles very well at all speeds. It is fast enough for me. The technology and instrumentation are wonderful.
My main criticism is a "hunting" at about 2 k rpm whilst cruising. I understand its because BMW programme the injectors to run very lean. I would happily sacrifice some economy to get a smoother ride.
The only other downside is the indicator switches. Why on earth dod they put them on both sides of the handlebars thus your throttle control is jeopardised when indicating right or cancelling them. The upside is automatic cancelling in 300 metres. Great for motorways but too long for other roads.”
“Have had the bike for 12 months, 12 plate with 18,000 on the clock. Very economical, ave 60/70 mile a gallon. BMW dealers with full service history servicing is not cheap £300 ish for a service but you get what you pay for routine. Excellent ride will upgrade to the GT in a couple of years time, Love the bike!”
“Everything about the F800 ST is first class, very pleased with the purchase, a capable, economical, tourer with excellent handling, not too tall and not too heavy.”
