“A great bike, though not recommend for a beginner unless you keep it in "B" mode and take it easy with the throttle until your accustomed to it.
Awesome torque and acceleration will beat just about anything from 0-60 even a lot of litre bikes.
Only downside for me is extreme diving of the front forks under hard braking. That's easily remedied by upgrading your springs and fork oil however some riders will be fine with it as they will not be pushing it to its limits.
There's a lot of talk about snatchy throttle but I believe that was on the early models, my one is fine, it's very slight at low revs on a neutral throttle but nothing to worry about.
In summary, a good first "big bike" upgrade maybe a bit much for a beginner. Adequate handling and comfort, good brakes, very light and agile, awesome engine at a very good price. Will satisfy the hooligan in equal parts to the commuter/ "B" road scratcher.”
“MT-09 is a great value for money bike. No fancy features, but it handles great, is light, fuel efficient and so far with very little issues (as I would expect from most Yamahas)”
“Not done many long journeys but is great fun out on a Sunday run or in and out of town, really light and easy to manoeuvre in and out of traffic.
Like that it has 3 different modes for the type of driving you are doing . Love the bike would recommend to others . Is comfy no sore back, shoulder of wrists is high I used to get on my sports bikes.”
“2 years old with 2300miles on the clock and just had to renew the battery even though the bike is connected up to the mains when not in use.
on last ride out an engine rattle has just started of which I have not investigated yet.
the bike is ok but not as good as the raves in all the mags when it was first unveiled.”
“ive owned lots of modern sports bikes and cruisers and tourers and this is the best bike i have owned and it was one of the cheapest bikes i have purchased over the years”
“Awesome engine except for snatchy throttle response which can be cured by specialists. Excellent value for money but suspension is the one area that Yamaha cost savings are most obvious. This can easily be upgraded. Saddle a little hard for longer journeys. Truly a modern day Yamaha LC!”
