“What a fantastic bike this is. Looks great, performs and handles brilliantly and never fails to get compliments and admiring glances- even from taxi drivers! I could not have chosen a better bike. BUT!!!! Please read on- When you spend £13k on a motorbike with a BMW badge on it you would expect it to be reliable wouldn't you? Wrong! After 5,000 miles the clutch cable seized, ( a month after its first service), and then it kept stalling, (7-10,000 miles). Went back to the dealer just before warranty ran out and was told it needed three software upgrades! Work was carried ot under warranty and there was no charge. Didn't realise motorbikes needed software upgrades but then I suppose that's the price you pay for technology these days. Two weeks after the warranty ran out and the bike starts stalling again. Go back to the dealer but this time they want to charge me for the work as BMW wouldn't authorise the work under warranty- no goodwill, no admission they might not have fixed the problem in the first place or any thought as to how all this might affect what I think of the BMW brand, what bike I might buy next or what I would say to other bike owners. Anyway, the dealer reduced the bill so I only had to pay the loan bike fee. Oh, I nearly forgot, whilst the bike was in for the warranty work the second time, I was asked if I would like to replace the parts that had fallen off! Now it's four weeks later, and the bike has started stalling again.
How is it that car manufacturers can build cars that last for 15 years before anything goes wrong. Kia, for example, offer a 7 year warranty with unlimited mileage or 100,000 miles or something similar but no motorcycle manufacturer offers more than a 2 year warranty. My bike has just 10,0000 miles on it after two years, is garaged every night and is looked after like one of the family. It really just isn't good enough that a manufacturer like BMW cannot produce a product these days that reaches or exceeds the expectations of reliability of their customers. I still love this bike!”
