“I was basically looking for things to add to my total order & the alarm feature on this interested me.
When I received it, the battery compartment was corroded! Marina had a clear plastic tab under only one battery. I guess that's not enough to stop the battery from sweating? Batteries should never be left in a device when not in use for long periods of time. Anyway The Tech Den sent me a replacement after receiving my email with clear photos of the damage. To my surprise the replacement also had battery corrosion damage! Not as bad as the first so I pulled it apart & cleaned it. working now. I set the alarm etc up & dropped the sensor into my tank. After a while the alarm went off. 30c? My other 2 thermometers are reading 27c.
I did some research & found out this Marina Thermometers are known for inaccurate readings.
Avoid this product.
I paid extra $10 & bought an Inkbird unit which is a thermometer on steroids but wow.”
“I bought this 15 months ago, and noticed my tank was 30.5 degrees constantly, despite lowering my heater, so I threw the heater out and bought another one. Put in the new heater, still 30+ degrees. Turns out, the heater(s) was fine, my thermometer had developed a +6-7 degrees reading. I've compared it to other thermometers, and tried replacing the batteries, it still is +6-7 degrees out. While it worked it was good. The LCD, LED and sound still work nicely, so it is disappointing that the thermometer has gone out of wack.”
“For this low price you get a fantastic alarm system where you can set high and low temperature thresholds. I once lost all my fish when a heater stuck on this would have saved them for certain as you can't miss the alarm and flashing red light.”
