“This Flex Cable and its end connectors are the weak link in the Cetus MK3 Heated bed. It is folded (creased) twice for installation. This type of cable should not be sharply creased. The high current is carried over many parallel conductors. The connectors make contact through extremely small points to the metallic conductors in the ribbon. This is insufficient contact. When they fail open, fewer conductors carry the current, increasing the current load over fewer conductors. These conductors overheat. I have had TWO cables burst into flame. A third cable suffered a cut on the edge creating an open circuit to the bed thermistor. This caused extreme overheating of the bed but no burn out failure of the cable. I am presently on my forth cable. No cable creasing and extreme diligence making tight ribbon cable end connections. I am running low duty cycle 50-60C bed temps with no further problem. Fear tying long duty cycle 90-100+ C bed temps my overheat ribbon connector points.”
