Wakabotan “Hinohikari 50” Reviews

4.4 Rating 11 Reviews
This sake is sweet and acidic. I prefer to drink it as a standalone beverage as I find the sweetness fights with a savory meal. Very tasty and great as an after-dinner treat.

I was introduced to this by way of a 'meet the brewery' video session. It is small batch with limited distribution, and we are very lucky that Tippsy is able to have it as an offering. Hinohikari, which is a table rice, results in a bit more full bodied sake. The brewers recommended it to be good with spicy food and I can say it paired well with homemade chili. Opening it, it had a bit of sparkle on tongue when first poured. Very distinctive and delicious. I highly recommend it!

Hi Charles - thank you so much for your review, and it was great meeting you at the Wakabotan online live tasting event! A little sparkle on the tongue = "pichi pichi" conversation really made my day. Kampai to you!

Wonderful! I typically don’t think of Oita Prefecture when I think of SAKÉ; however, this junmai ginjo (pure rice saké) genshu (undiluted), muroka (unfiltered) is simply WONDERFUL. Hinohikari rice? I had never heard it before experiencing this soft, light, fruit-forward beverage. Ahh … The label is pink flowers. Hmm … I thought. Flowers? Well, if it suggests LOVE and AFFECTION… I’m sold. As drinkable as kisses from the fairy princess; just lie back and enjoy it. The waves of silk and satin wash away one’s cares. With absolutely no trace of off putting saké scent/alcohol nose this fine Nihonshu 日本酒 is 100% seductive and satisfying. This beautiful lady was born to please; I am totally pleased. Buy it; love it.
