I was not blown away by this sake, and yet I give it 5 stars - it just tasted like it should. I guess this is my preferred profile for sake - full bodied, umami savory. Not surprising, but glad to find it.

Ooh thank you for your review - looks like you found the type of sake that you like! We encourage you to explore other sake from this brewery, and "Old-school" category, along with sake that's dry with umami qualities that come forth as you enjoy them!

I found a bottle of this at a local shop (to my surprise) and decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed. After just drinking on a bottle of Miyanoyuki Junmai the night before this came as a refreshing surprise to my palate! The flavors were very nice and I enjoyed the richness of it. A chilled bottle of this on a warm summer evening is a winning combination.

This brew can come off as somewhat earthy. Coupled with its relatively high acidity some may say, “Hey! Where is my fruit forward, mild Dassai taste?” But if you want a more full body brew, this is for you. Terrific with spicy foods like barbecue, fine with burgers and fries. I enjoy it chilled on my back deck overlooking beautiful Baugo Bay in the summertime while my friends are drinking beer. Not for everyone; however, it is a nice change of pace, and you May end up “in love.” Kanpai 乾杯, my friends.

The other night I was in the mood for sake. I walked over to my wine rack and searched for a bottle. Ugh. I forgot to order more. I debated heading to my local liquor store. I knew what I would find. The same tired three bottles of sake. But I went anyway. To my surprise, sitting next to the three usual suspects was a bottle of "Hawk in the Heavens". I think it's a testament to the interest in sake near me. Or maybe is was just an eager liquor rep. Anyway... I grabbed it. It's a good flavorful sake. I enjoyed it with a poke bowl. After finishing up, I read the listing on Tippsy. I think the "for barbeque" recommendation is perfect. While it was good with the poke bowl (no complaints here), I can image it's bolder flavors would be great with some tasty meat.
