While axle and fat grip training has dramatically changed grip training, pinch grip is just as if not more important and the thumbs go over looked. You will not be able to curl or pick up a lot. These are great for doing one handed deadlifts. If you can get them cheap then do it. I like it better than a pinch block (you can pull from floor level without a loading pin).

Firstly,I love grip, all things grip, grip work is a great finisher to a good workout. Thick bars and dumbbells are the most versatile of grip tools allowing you to incorporate grip work into more general movements. These block dumbbells are no exception, you can really load up the weight with the 2.5" side or you can go for a wider pinch challenge with the 4" side. My favorite movements are farmers walks, curls( hammer and supinating), power cleans and deadlifts. I prefer to use just one 'bell at a time for the power cleans and deadlifts. I would add, beware that the 4" width may be tough on the skin between your thumb and pointer.
