Tech Note 1: Lubricate Lip To provide initial lubrication, apply a thin film of clean grease or petroleum jelly to the seal lips and input shaft seal surface before final assembly.
Tech Note 2: Age HardeningFor most applications that use this seal, the seal is functioning both as the transmission rear output seal and the transfer case input seal. As the seal ages over many years and after many heat/cool cycles, the seal lips will become inflexible and start to leak oil from the transmission into the transfer case. The cure is simple, remove the transfer case and replace the seal.
