Tech Note 1: Before Removing Although it is a good idea to pull the diff cover so you can inspect the gears and change the oil, you do NOT have to remove the cover as there are no retaining rings (C-Clips) used on AAM 925 inner axle shafts.
Tech Note 2: Hub RemovalDodge did not have AAM put any anti-corrosion coating between the wheel hub and steering knuckle. If your front axle has never been apart before, there is a good chance the hub bearing support is rust frozen to the steering knuckle. While a heavy duty puller like our QT1072 can often pull the hub, you have to be VERY careful that you do not separate and ruin the hub assembly when using a puller. For badly stuck hubs, I prefer to torch the ball joints and remove the steering knuckle and wheel hub as an assembly which can be pressed apart on a shop press. Before you get into your axle, you might want to order Tech Service Bulletin TSB4586 AAM 925 Ball Joint Service and/or TSB4597 AAM 925 Front Axle Shaft Service.
Tech Note 3: Removing AxleWhen trying to remove the old axle shaft from the vehicle, it may seem like the shaft is "stuck". There is no C-Clip or Spring Clip holding the inner axle shaft in the differential. However the oil bath type inner axle seal is a tight fit on the shaft, so you may need to place a pry bar between the inner yoke and axle housing and apply outward pressure on the axle shaft.

Safety Notes:
There is a lot of chat on the Internet about using your power steering to force the hub assembly out of the knuckle. It may work, but it is insanely dangerous to do, plus it severely stresses the steering linkage, steering gear, and frame. If you have a suicide complex fine, go ahead and do it, just make sure I am not on the same road you are when your steering fails and you kill yourself!
