Dan the Gear Man® Tech Notes:Do Not Over-Tighten!Never Reuse Lockwasher!Verify Spindle SizeWheel Bearing Adjustment for Ford Matching Parts in 1969.5-79 F-250 Dana 60 Rear Applications
Tech Note 1: Do Not Over-Tighten!When torquing the outer spindle nut, you must be very careful not to over tighten it as excessive torque has a tendency to shear the spindle notch lock tab.
Tech Note 2: Never Reuse Lockwasher!Never reuse a spindle lock washer! These parts are designed for a single use. If you reuse one of these, metal fatigue on the spindle notch tab or any previously bent over tabs can cause that tab to break off. A broken tab WILL NOT prevent the spindle nuts from coming off! If you think these washers are expensive, you will not like what it costs to fix your truck after the hub and wheel flies off going down the interstate!
Tech Note 3: Verify Spindle SizeTK20017 fits 1956-1979 Ford Dana 60 and Dana 70 rear axles with 2" spindle threads. As far as I have seen, only F350 trucks had 2" spindle threads prior to 1968. The 2" spindle appeared on some E-Series vans in 1968 and all F250 trucks in mid 1969 effective with serial number F70001. However, by now many of the original axles have been swapped out, so it is not uncommon to find a vintage Ford with a newer or older axle than the original, making it imperative that you verify your spindle size before ordering!
Tech Note 4:
Wheel Bearing Adjustment for Ford
Adjust the inner spindle nut to 50-80 lb-ft. while rotating the hub.
Back the nut off 1 turn
Re-torque to 50-80 lb-ft. while rotating the hub.
Put a thin coat of grease on both sides of a NEW TK20017 Lock Washer.
Install the washer on the spindle and push it up against the inner spindle washer
Tighten the Lock Nut to 90-110 lb-ft. (the 90-110 spec is from official Ford Shop Manuals, however that much torque puts a lot of stress on the narrow spindle tab on the inside diameter lock washer. If you shear off a tab, get a new Lock Washer and try torquing the outer nut to a lower value. Back in the days when I worked on a lot of 1970's vintage Fords with the really soft and easy-to-shear factory lockwashers, I usually torqued the outer spindle nut to 50-60 lb-ft. while rotating the hub.
Check the hub spins freely, then check the wheel bearing/hub end-play. The end play measured with a dial indicator indicating off the hub should be 0.001" to 0.010".
When the correct end-play is achieved. Bend 2 tabs inward over the inner nut and 2 tabs outward over the outer nut.

Torqued to 90 ft. Lbs. 100 on the other side. I had to order a new one as I torqued it to 120 ft. Lbs. That broke the keyway tab.
