QU40068 Dana 60, Dana 61 Outer Axle Shaft Snap Ring for 1975-1993 Dodge and 1977-1991 GM is the original equipment outer axle shaft snap rings used on 1975-1993 Dodge and 1977-1991 GM Dana 60 and Dana 61 front drive axles with serviceable wheel bearings. This nominal 0.050" Snap Ring was also sold with most aftermarket hub sets for the same applications and also for Ford 1980-2005 Dana 50 and 1978-2004 Dana 60 axles.

Tech Note 1: Replace Ring if Damaged Replace the ring if it is stretched or bowed. A damaged ring may pop out of the axle shaft groove which may lead to water leaking into the spindle bearing when the axle shaft moves away from the back of the spindle.
Tech Note 2: Manual or Automatic HubsMost Dodge and GM Dana Dana 60 and Dana 61 open knuckle front axles had factory manual hubs or solid drive gears/flanges and used this snap ring in a groove machined near the outboard end of the axle shaft splines. Some GM models had Auto hubs which would have this Snap Ring installed in a groove machined at the inboard end of the axle shaft splines.
Tech Note 3: 2 SizesTwo thicknesses of axle shaft snap rings were supplied by Dana for Model 50 and 60 front axles. Dodge and GM used QU40068 0.050" thick snap ring with "reversed" or low-profile lugs for more outside clearance. Ford used QU40155 0.092" thick snap ring with outside lugs. Warn and most other aftermarket hub manufacturers supplied QU40068 with their replacement M256 hub sets for all applications. For stock applications, I recommend you stay with the original type of snap ring. If you need or want to change to QU40155 snap ring on a Dodge or GM 4x4, check the axle shaft groove thickness and for clearance around the snap ring tabs before making the swap.
Tech Note 4: ToolUse QT9213i or QT9208 Snap Ring Pliers or similar tool to remove/install your axle shaft snap rings.
