Tech Note 1: Inspect BootA boot protected driveshaft slip joint will usually outlast the truck as long as the boot is intact and there is some grease on the splines. If your Boot is damaged, REPLACE IT! If your Boot is OK, but you are doing other driveshaft service, always clean and grease the splines AND replace the clamps!
Tech Note 2: ToolsUsing a QT4018i Clamp Tool specifically made to tighten eared clamps around the driveshaft boot is the best way to tension a stainless steel Boot Clamp to provide an air and watertight seal. If a Clamp Tool is not available, you may be able to get by with a nail puller or hoof nippers. Wire cutters could be used in an emergency situation as a last resort, but the results are often unsatisfactory.
