Tech Note 1: SAFETY NOTE!Stock Elastic Stop Spindle Nuts and Lock Wedges used on Dodge Dana 70 rear axles after approximately January 8, 1979 are designed to be installed once and only once! For safety reasons, you must discard both the nut and wedge if they are removed from the spindle for any reason. Both parts lose a percentage of their resistance of coming off when they are removed. You may hear of cases where this type of factory nut has come off while the truck was being driven. Invariably, these failures involve nuts and wedges that have been reused or improperly installed. NEVER REUSE FACTORY ELASTIC STOP SPINDLE NUTS and LOCK WEDGES!!!!!

Tech Note 4: Grease BearingsUnder operating conditions, the rear wheel bearings are bathed in oil from the differential, but they do need to be packed with grease to provide initial lubrication.
Tech Note 5: Nut DesignFor Dana 60 and Dana 70 full-floating rear axles, Dodge changed from using a double spindle nut setup (QK4730) to a single nut with lock (QK4015) effective January 9, 1979. TK4984 includes the 1-9-1979 and later Spindle Nut and Lock.
