Tech Note 1: Before InstallingBefore installing your new spindle, lube the bearing, seals, and thrust washer with QU90018 Pyroplex® grease. Also, apply some S9975 or S81343 Anti-Seize Compound to the mating surfaces between the spindle and steering knuckle.
Tech Note 2: Dodge 1985-1987The dead spindle design of the 1985-1987 Dodge Dana 44 CAD front axle uses a needle bearing to support the right outer axle shaft. On 1985-1987 trucks, no spindle bearing is used on the LEFT side as the left inner axle shaft is supported next to the yoke by QU50155 Bearing. Instead of a bearing, a Seal Retainer (which is no longer available) is installed in the left spindle. The Spindle itself is the same. If you need to replace the left spindle on your 1985-1987 truck, remove the needle bearing from your new spindle and install the Seal retainer from your old spindle.
Tech Note 3: GM and Jeep Wheel BearingsSome early 1977 1/2 ton GM and Jeep 4x4s with Dana 44 front axles used QA40593 spindle that takes smaller inner wheel bearings. QU40313 spindle is made for QU50412 inner wheel bearing which has an inside diameter of 2.00". For the 1971-1977.5 GM 1/2 ton spindle, see QA40593.
Tech Note 4: 1977.5-EarlierSome early 1977 3/4 ton GM and Jeep J20 4x4s with Dana 44 front axles may have had a wheel hub that used six 3/8" diameter bolts to secure the lockout hub or drive flange to the wheel hub. QU40313 Spindle WILL NOT fit those early 1977 and prior 3/4 tons with the external mount hub! For the 1971-1977.5 GM and Jeep 3/4 ton spindle, see QU40323.
Tech Note 5: Dodge Wheel Seals and Wheel HubsDodge used the same wheel bearings and same base spindle for all 1980-1993 Dana 44 front axles. However, different wheel seals and wheel hubs are used. 1980-1984 hubs have a 3-1/4" seal bore diameter, 1985-1993 hubs have a 3-5/16" seal bore diameter.

Tech Note 7: Dodge Standard 44 DimensionsThe standard front axle on 1985-1993 Dodge W-250 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks with gasoline engines is a Dana 44 beam type front axle with Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) of 3500 pounds. The end of the wheel hub measures about 3-5/8" in diameter and the spindle thread is 1-5/8". Standard on the diesel W-250 and optional on the gas W-250 was the 4500 pound rated Dana 60 front axle which has a front wheel hub that measures about 4-1/8" at the outer end and a 2" spindle thread.
