Tech Note 1: Shift Tower ChangeQK1126 Shift Tower Kit fits all the GM C and K series trucks with NV4500 5 speed manual transmissions from 1995 through 2000. When a heavy-duty version of the Silverado/Sierra series trucks was introduced in the 2001/2002 model years, a 2" body raise required a higher cover and tower. The GM parts information is a bit vague on the exact timing of when the low rise transmissions were phased out, but I find no reference to the low rise tower after the 2002 model year for 4x4 trucks.
Tech Note 2: Shift TowerAll 1998-2005 Dodge with 14mm coarse thread shift stub and 1995-2000 GM with 16mm fine thread shift stub NV4500 Shift Towers are physically interchangeable on the covers. In 2001 GM introduced the GMT 800 2500HD and 3500HD Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks. Vehicle Identification Number based (VIN) GM electronic parts books show two shift covers and towers for 2001-2002. The difference is the height of the cover shift tower base and length of the shift tower stub. The early cover as used for year 2000 and prior plus some 2001-2002 has a shift tower base that is about 3/4" high and it uses a short shift stub. The 2001 and later cover has a base that is approximately 1" high, accepts towers with a longer stub, and it was used on all the 2003-2007 Silverado and Sierra trucks. The Dodge and early GM towers are not interchangeable with late GM shift towers.
Tech Note 3: SealantThe metal plate on QU10157 Spacer mates to the transmission top cover. Apply a bead of RTV sealant to either mating surface. Do NOT use any RTV or other sealant between the rubber and shift tower base.
Tech Note 4: Shift LeverQU30087 matching 16mm shift lever is no longer available. If you need a shift tower and a shift lever, order QK1012 Kit.
