Use Proper Tools Before Installing Common Causes of Leaks Applications
Tech Note 1: Wheel SealsQU40555 Flanged Seal was original equipment on 2005 and 2006 Ford Super Duty F-350 trucks built up to December 5, 2005. In mid model year 2006, Ford switched back to the smaller inner bearing and wheel seal previously used on 1999-2004 models. See QU40449 for a wheel seal for F350 DRW trucks that were built after December 5, 2005.
Tech Note 2: Use Proper ToolsWheel Seals are easily damaged when using makeshift installation tools. Use QT1545 Seal Installer for Dual Rear Wheel Ford Super Duty® trucks.
Tech Note 3: Before InstallingAlways lubricate the lip of your new seal with clean grease before installing the hub on the spindle!
Tech Note 4: Common Causes of LeaksMany wheel seal leaks are caused by pressure building in axle due to a clogged axle vent system. Always check and clear the vent system. Other common causes of leaking seals include improper wheel bearing adjustment, poor installation techniques (See Tech Notes 2 and 3 above), and worn spindle surface.
