“I had planned to build a Log Cabin to replace an old shed in the back garden after helping a friend build a Tuin Gazebo a few years ago. During the lockdown i spent a lot of time researching the many different companies who supply these kit structures, but everytime came back to the Tuin log cabins not only due to previous knowledge of the quality of building but also the fantastic service. I made my choice of the Uddel Modern 3.8 x 2.6m cabin that would fit perfectly into the limited space i had. The transaction was easy and very quickly i was given a delivery date. The delivery was made as stated and the very helpful driver was very cool and drove down a narrow road into my cul-de-sac with his fork lift . The assembly of the building was very easy and was constructed on a Victorian style plinth of flag stones and concrete blocks due to the fact i could not get sand and cement during lockdown restrictions to make a concrete foundation. This method worked fantastically (it took 1 week to create this )and the building was erected by myself in 2 days it took a further week to coat with wood preserver (3 coats) and felt the roof. The end result is a Fantastic spacious log cabin of very high quality that has transformed our garden and has been used both as a beautiful relaxing and peaceful space in the garden and also very useful for storage. All in all a brilliant quality experience with no regrets at all. Well done Tuin!!”
“Just finished installing an Uddel log cabin as a replacement for our old and decrepit pool shed. We chose Tuin as we had previously installed a Wolfgang cabin several years back and felt that the quality was much better than most ordinary sheds. Construction was relatively straightforward, but, unlike the Wolfgang, you have to make up the door frames, which was a bit of a pain. I would say that the larger component log cabins are much better, but the Uddel was only available in 28mm logs, which is a pity. I also felt that the pitch on the pent roof is a bit shallow, as water does not run off cleanly. Would I recommend Tuin and buy another? Yes to both.”
“This log cabin was purchased to replace an existing shed. The quality of the log cabin is far superior to the shed, even though the shed was expensive and top of its range. I spent quite a lot of time preparing the base and this made erecting the cabin quite easy. The instructions for this cabin were fine until it came to the roof but I worked it out in the end. The slope on this pent roof is very shallow and I decided to add corrugated roofing sheets for peace of mind. Putting up a log cabin is considerably more work than erecting a shed however I expect the log cabin to last for years. It is excellent quality and looks amazing.”
“I took delivery of the shed some weeks back before the UK lockdown, so Im very glad I ordered it when I did. I havent constructed it yet as Im still building the base so I cant comment on the actual shed. However, Im very happy to comment on the delivery. The driver and I wish I had his name so that I could thank him personally as he really went out of his way to provide a top quality delivery service. I first received a call from the driver to say his truck had an issue with one of the front tyres which was being replaced as a result, he said he would let me know when it was fixed and he was on the road again. The driver rang back as he said he would to say he was on his way. I had already warned him that I live at the end of a cul de sac so not a good idea to drive his artic to my street. The driver duly parked some distance away, not in my road and used his forklift to deliver the shed. My driveway is not wide enough to take the forklift and the shed so he had to leave it at the top of the drive. All in all a truly great service and I would not hesitate to recommend Tuin just based on their amazing delivery service! Keep up the good work.”
“This was my second Tuin cabin, having built the first in the garden of our previous house when we needed garden storage in the garden of the new house I didnt hesitate to buy one from the Tuin web site. As previously it came in under budget, was delivered on time and had every part present and correct. I had a few queries , as the instructions are not exactly intuitive, but Tuin provide excellent support in the phone and by email. Take their advice about the necessity of the base to be FLAT and LEVEL very seriously. Once again the result was excellent and I am very happy I ordered the composite material support beams and the butyl rubber roof (although a 3rd can of glue would have been appreciated). Highly recommended.”
“Delivery Delivery driver very helpful and with the use of the Moffat able to place packages where required. Did block road for a bit, which caused havoc for a lot of learner drivers who use the street, trying to reverse or turn around their cars! Unpacking When unpacking and sorting the various parts, you need to be aware that this can take a fair bit of space. I was able to use drive and also store items like doors, windows, roofing and small parts in garage. Also having the various parts near to where the log cabin is being built saves a lot of walking when assembling. Assembly This is quite straight forward once the foundation layer is built. To ensure that the cabin was square I used plywood sheets, which I was using for the flooring, which having manufactured square edges to ensure squareness (my local B&Q has a timber saw so can cut to any size required). The wall with the door and window in becomes floaty as nothing connects right across until the last few layers, although the door/window frames can help, but I used the final top board as a temporary hold whilst working up and just moved this up layer by layer. Door and window frames were put in when logs had been fully assembled, as this seemed easier, than trying to fit logs into framework, and architrave round doors and windows when fitted and screwed down tight locks everything together. As with all wood some logs have various twists etc. in them, but once fitted together the weight above and other logs tends to bring things back into shape. A spare piece of wood and a heavy hammer can be used to make sure that things are square and even at the ends of the logs. Problems The only area that caused a few issues was around the soffits and roof. The roof boards are the same length as the normal logs but the final top logs and roof beams have an overhang of 170mm as against 90mm on the other logs. It would appear that the roof boards should be set centrally with a gap at the front and rear and the soffits fitted to the longer logs and roof beams. This leaves the issue as to how to weatherproof this part of the logs that overhang and not covered by the roof boards, but does mean that rain drains off the back, and guttering can be fitted to channel this away. Having fitted my roof boards level with the front of the 170mm overhang meant that there was only a slight overhang at the back and additional brackets were made to extend the roof at the back and to add guttering. The soffit front and rear panel are shown as being joined in the middle with a piece of wood being used to join them. This joint seems rather weak, so I cut one of the boards in half and staggered the joint using exterior wood glue to glue all the boards together resulting in a lot more solid board. This also meant that it was easier to fit as one solid board rather that four individual boards. I also added additional brackets at the front to add further support to the soffit. Errors The only error found was that the recess on the window frame for the handle was not quite deep enough but this was soon resolved with an electric sander. Overall Good solid log cabin and good response from Tuin when emailing queries. Spare logs etc. so that additional parts can be made or choice as to what parts look better for architrave etc. This cabin was built single handed by someone nearly 70 and took a couple of days so should be possible to complete in one day if younger or help available.”
