“Chasing the fifth decimal to the right of audio perfection, it is very close with the Ares G2.1 Streamer. The soundstage is deep, dark, with breathtaking highs (not bright) and impressive/tight low end; very close to analogue. If you are reading this review, you already know about the build quality. Yes, it is all true! But, having put 100+ hours into this streamer now, the software control is what's most impressive (also have a HiFi Rose 250 and a NAIM ND5 XS2). The ability to control the speaker and room dynamics, upsample to +700hz, use Amazon Music....make this Ares one of the best streamers I've worked with. Lastly, a nod to Kat at Upscale who has patiently/professionally been a great partner in helping me build out my system (a mix of Upscale products): Ares G2.1 into a Denafrips Hermes DDC to a Terminator Plus, to a LTA MicroZotl Preamp to a LTA ZOTL Ultralinear+ Amp to Spendor D9.2's, interconnects are (mostly) AQ.”

“The Aries G2.1 is a wonderful piece of gear. If you enjoy streaming you might as well hear all the music. It all starts at the source. Good Ethernet cables and a good Ethernet switch are also part of the source. I am extremely happy with the sound. Kevin’s review helped me pull the trigger. I feel very comfortable dealing with Upscale Audio. Greg Bauch”

Thanks for the review, Greg! Yes, it's important to recognize that the Ethernet side of your system is very much part of the source, and treat it with the same care as you would any other analog or digital signal path.

“I’ve also tried the Lumin D2 and Lumin Mini, which are both great streamers. But for a lot more money, the Auralic Aries G2.1 is more authoritative and delivers a more energetic sound. I’m using an Audioquest WEL Digital Cable, also very expensive, with the Aries, and that cable delivers a very complete, balanced and neutral hi-end sound quality.”
