This amp is sweet, the sound is so much more open than the Krell amp it replaced. It is still breaking in but every time I listen I hear something that I did not hear the last time.

Awesome Class A amp. It's definitely a flagship. Like its smaller sibling, the BHK250, which I have, is partial Class A and runs hot, downright toasty at times, worse if you keep your home above 72 degrees fahrenheit. PS Audio recommends that it be on (or on standby) all the time but will not discuss how hot the unit can get before the heat impacts internal components, except not to worry. It will shut down if it overheats, of course, but that does not speak to heat impact over the long term. Like many luxury cars, you are taking a chance keeping it after its warranty period if you are expecting a long, maintenance-free life. With tubes you know that replacement will be needed and more or less when. PS Audio just won't address the matter of heat-related parts wear directly, which is not reassuring. SQ is important and I'm having a great time listening to music with it but the relationship will not survive the warranty period. SQ is important, but so is knowing maintenance or repair expectations. Leading class products put us on the bleeding edge. The BHK amps deliver on SQ, but at what cost? "I don't know, we didn't do endurance testing" would be an acceptable answer, but no discussion of the subject when asked? Makes one wonder. So, mine is an enthusiastic SQ endorsement with caution for longevity, a subject not talked about enough in audiophile circles.

The System: PS Audio Direct Stream Memory Player, PS Audio Direct Stream DAC, PS Audio BHK 250 amp, and PS Audio P20 AC regenerator. Connections: Nordost Valhalla 2 HDMI, Nordost Tyr2 balanced XLR cable, and Nordost Tyr2 speaker cables, Graphite SF Guareni Evolution speakers. I was a real vinyl lover till DSD and PS Audio electronics. This amp is amazing! I'm going to wait for ~500hrs of break in and then the "sweet" tubes.... another couple of levels. This will give me time to get my isothermal traps set up and adjusted, the speakers properly set up and the NAS working.

I bought my PS Audio BHK 250 Amp from Upscale about 6 weeks ago. Since I already had the BHK PreAmp, I thought they would make nice synergy. All I can say is wow! As one reviewer said, 'all the normal spec comments (detail, dynamics, etc) apply but in addition this Amp has soul'. I couldn't agree more. Most of my listening is classical with some jazz and pop thrown in but almost all acoustic instruments. I favor chamber music and the 250 lets me pick out individual instruments just as I do at frequent live concerts (keeps my ears calibrated). This is a terrific value--check out the PS Audio website for interesting interviews with the designer, Bascom King. Was also rated class A in Stereophile. I run the Tungsram tubes in both the preamp and amp, also highly recommended.

The PS Audio BHK Signature 250 Amp is a great product. I replaced my Krell 300cxi with this amp. The Krell is direct coupled with no caps in the signal path. It was transparent and slightly on the warm side of neutral. I read all the articles about the BHK amp. I was interested in the tube input stage. I think one of the most difficult things to do is pick a system that is balanced and produces the sound you like. With the ability to some tube rolling, you can adjust the sound to your liking. The BHK, coupled with the Prima Luna Dialog preamp makes a great music system. The sound is open, extended and balanced. This is an amp that I can sit and listen to music for hours. I recently went to a local dealer that sold a high end amp from a German manufacturer. The upper end was so detailed that I spent most of my time listening for small sounds in symbols and drums. I really wasn't enjoying the music. The BHK does detail but it is integrated into the rest of the sound spectrum so it becomes a balanced part of the music. I can highly recommend this amp. I think you get a lot for the money.
