I didn't like this KT90. It sounds messy and confused, muffled and irritated. It has issues with timing and is disorganized. It puts out so many spot lights and flood lights as if it were searching for warm living souls to never find one, not even a dead one. No conveyance whatsoever. After 150hrs my headaches are gone and my ears are thanking me for removing these tubes. These aren't anywhere near an EL34, 6550a, or KT88. It like tasting the Baskin Robbins flavor they should have never created. If you're looking to listen to a bone dry ill-timed harmonically confused soul-less tube that has an ego that thinks it's great, then here it is.

The KT90EH is a great option compared to a typical 6550 (or KT88), it has higher dissipation and sounds wonderful strapped as a triode, creating a very refined intimate sound stage with solid bass performance. The KT90EH has a transparent character that let's the performance shine through especially in the accuracy and natural sound of vocals and percussion. I highly recommended trying them out. Upscale's matching was spot on and the tubes have held tight on the bias. I'm using the tubes in a Bob Latino ST120 which is modern re-mix of the Dynaco ST70 (they even fit with the cage on, not too tall just right, unlike the KT120). I suspect that they would also sound great in other amplifiers that are capable of triode strapping the output tubes.

The EH KT90 come stock with my jadis orchestra.after many hours of run in about a hundred hours, the sound is very open and dynamic.the midrange is full body and warm and this tube can handle fast perplex music.the treble is not edgy sounding but sweet and accurate, and deep bass is well control and weighty. The warm sounding of this tube is lovely, whom i look for in tube amp,and also sound involving too.the clarity of music is of important to me and this tube done a good job.as more time burn in for this tube,it might be a great EL34 tube as mention by EH.

After procrastinating replacing the tubes in an EAR 890, I'm finally listening to the new tubes. I left the protective cages off. The noise floor seems lower. I'm hearing an improved articulation of the sound. These tubes can be edgy sounding, but they are very accurate in the high frequencies. Later at night, when the electrical grid settles down, harshness disappears and gives way to great sound.

These are Powerful Dramatic and Edgy sounding. I think they are perfect for Home Theatre systems and Guitar amps. Ei and Electroharmonix are the only makers to have ever produced the KT90. Ei produced the first ones and there are still a few of those out there. Electroharmonix perfected the KT90 and this is the one to have. On their websites' description of the tube, Electroharmonix describes the sound as "a great big EL34" and that's good, but its not complete. The KT90 also has the best characteristics of a KT88 . Its one of the "modern" tubes, designed in the late 90's and first produced then. Its a warmer, more musical, more natural sounding tube than the 120 and 150. It doesn't have the awesome power of those tubes but I prefer it. If you love the sound of the EL34 but need the KT88's power you may have just found your niche.
