“The Cabasse Pearl Akoya loudspeaker is a superb performer. I had previously heard the Cabasse line at AXPONA a couple years back. I was particularly impressed with the Rialto active speakers, which definitely went down to 30 Hz with no audible distortion. Very impressive! In fact, so impressive, I bought a pair from a dealer in Kansas City earlier this year. When I saw this sale at Upscale Audio, I jumped at the chance to buy another pair in the Pearl Akoya format. As it turns out, the designs are very similar except for the external case (bookshelf vs. spherical) and the built-in vs. remote control. These speakers have a built-in room correction feature. They are excellent at making the bass nearly as smooth as silk. Midrange is flawless. The highs seem a bit muted compared to my usual speakers, but my hearing is not as good in that area as they used to be. I have two reasons for not giving these 5 stars. First, I had to return one speaker due to a cosmetic defect in the exterior finish of one speaker. And second, the Cabasse phone app is a little confusing and caused some difficulty in setting up the speakers. For some reason, Cabasse uses a micro USB port on the back, and to play prerecorded music off a thumb drive, you need an adapter. It didn't take long for me to start enjoying them however, and I am playing them every day. They even have a setting to adjust for listener position in the room, among other great features. If you want something that streams, contains everything inside it (DAC and amplifiers) and plays beautiful music, this is the speaker to get at a very reasonable price! Although sold separately, I suggest getting a stereo pair.”

“The Cabasse Pearl Akoya is simply an outstanding piece of equipment! For me it is a perfect solution as a secondary system (I can imagine two Pearls certainly could be used as a primary system). Instead of firing up my main tube-based system for back-ground music, the Akoya is perfect for this. I was concerned that a stand alone system would sound just like all the other Bluetooth speakers I've owned, but just louder.... Ha!... Boy, was I wrong! I was pleasantly surprised when I fired it up for its first test drive! It met and surpassed all my expectations in sound quality and ease of use! Just an outstanding peice of equipment!”
