The sound of the Platinum 3 is detailed and though it's warm, the warmth is not at the expense of clarity. I traded in my Platinum 1 for the the 3 through Grado's trade and upgrade program (great idea) and the 3 is much more revealing with a far more obvious sound stage. Very satisfying particularly for smaller ensemble jazz and classical music. The bass is excellent as is the high end though not tizzy.

Very pleasant cartridge to listen to. Works well with my Technics SL1210 MK2 and iFi Zen pre-amp going through my Yamaha CA 2010 vintage integrated. It has a warm, luscious and detailed sound without being too analytical. Easy to set up. Upscale know their stuff!!! Received excellent advice from Ira and Kat! My favorite online store!

My first Grado cartridge and I can only compare it with a few other carts I've owned. I replaced a well-used Ortofon 2M Black with the Platinum 3 on a Pro-Ject RPM 9.2 Evo turntable. The difference was obvious.. the 2M Black was brighter and more dynamic but lacked the wide and detailed soundstage of the Grado. Instrument separation and placement are far superior with the Platinum 3. The major drawback with the Grado is a lack of midrange and overall dynamics. The Grado is very musical and sweet sounding with orchestral recordings and I was able to pick out details on my classical recordings that were not audible with the Ortofon. This surprised me because the Grado Timbre Platinum 3 is half the price of the 2M Black Ortofon. With that said if your musical taste runs to more dynamic recordings such as rock then you might prefer the Ortofon. I've kept the Grado cartridge on my turntable and enjoy it with the style of music I listen to most frequently. I do wish it had a bit more midrange dynamics but for the price, it's a lovely musical cartridge.
