“I am providing a review as a person who enjoys music and appreciates recorded sound. I do not have ears that can distinguish between DAC quality or DAC characteristics from various manufacturers. I also can’t say if separates are better than all-in-ones. For me, the convenience and physical footprint of this unit was what initially attracted me to it. I enjoy streaming music (Spotify) because it allows me to play DJ based on what I am in the mood for without getting up from my chair. First available in approximately October 2022, HiFi Rose RS520 is a beauty. I opted for the silver. After connecting it to my Magnepan LRS+, I fell in love immediately. I had listened to this unit connected to Super Lintons, and they sounded great in the listening room at Upscale. I decided to connect the unit to the Magnepans because I heard these speakers require more power. This pairing produces magic. There are details I had not noticed before with other kinds of amplification. Is it the DAC? Is it the watts per channel? Is it the class A-D amplification? Who knows… I am no expert; it just sounds magnificent to me. A testament to great equipment is that it makes you want to spend hours listening to it. There is an i-Pad-like display on this unit that shows album covers, videos, VU meters, etc.; it's hard to see when you’re not close. It’s a touchscreen, but totally unnecessary especially when the RoseConnect Premium app allows you to control everything. You can stream YouTube (Rose Tube) on it. The Rose Tube feature is sometimes buggy, but I rarely use it. It may also be the case that I am not using the unit to its full potential because the sound quality of Spotify Connect may not be as great as Tidal or Qobuz. Nevertheless, I am very happy with it.”
